AMITY INSTITUTE OF ENVIRONMENTAL TOXICOLOGY, SAFETY AND MANAGEMENT

ABOUT US

Vision :
The institution strives to become a dynamic and leading institution in the field of Environment Toxicology where creative faculty and dedicated researchers perform cutting-edge research to study the cause and effect analysis of environmental contaminants and their impact on public health and eco-system.

Institution also targets high impact research on bio-remediation, site reclamation, environmental monitoring, waste water treatment, solid waste management and E- waste management technologies
Mision :
Amity Institute of Environmental Toxicology, Safety and Management has taken the mission of better public and environmental health by encouraging :

  • High quality research on the effects of chemicals toxicants (e.g. PAH, PCB, pesticides, heavy metals, dioxins/dibenzofurans) and other xenobiotic agents
  • Focus on creating, disseminating, and applying new knowledge for assessment and monitoring of Water, Soil and Air pollution
  • Pesticide residues , MRL values, food safety and regulations
  • Current topics and issues related with Environmental Toxicology
Director’s Message :
Welcome !

Amity Institute of Environmental Toxicology, Safety and Management is committed to work in area addressing urgent challenges facing a briskly deteriorating environmental health. Challenges faced by living organisms are climate change, habitat loss, and stress on food, water and energy supplies. Population growth and rapid urban and industrial development are unavoidably accompanied by pollution that is increasingly difficult for the environment to accommodate. Pollution is inevitably promoting rise in harmful chemical levels, heavy metals and particles in the atmosphere. A legacy of harmful chemical exposures (including occupational) and improper waste disposal have led to many irreversible damages to the environment. Chemicals may help in improving several aspect of our life but their residues in excess affect our health and becomes a pollutant to the environment and pose major risk to the ecosystem.

Meeting the challenges!!

  • We need to monitor ambient concentrations and fates of toxic chemicals in air, water and land to find the levels of exposure that occur in our daily lives, from the use of consumer products and in occupational backgrounds
  • We must assess the risks of such exposures and find ways to keep them at tolerable levels. This information is critical to enabling global governmental toxic regulatory systems to work effectively
  • It is essential to study the pathways of toxicants being distributed within the food chains and the response of the toxic pollutants to the ecosystems

As we gain better understanding of the complexity of the problems arising from exposure to natural and synthetic toxins, we need to develop appropriate scientific tools to address them. We wish to exploit recent advances in analytical chemical and molecular biological methods to elucidate toxic mechanisms as well as combining them to design high throughput screening assays.

Since environmental problems have multiple causes, we need a multi-disciplinary approach for training and cooperation among scientists with complementary expertise. To this end, Amity Institute of Environmental Toxicology, Safety and Management provides a solid foundation in Environmental Toxicology including Analytical & organic chemistry, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Genotoxicology, Ecology, Soil Science , Risk assessments etc. Scientists are encouraged to widen their scientific horizons for exploring all possible aspects of Environmental Toxicology.

Come join us in helping to save the world!
AIETSM at a glance :
Amity Institute of Environmental Toxicology, Safety and Management (AIETSM) was established in May, 2008. The quality research work on current burning issues of environmental pollution and its impact on public health with an aim to find solutions towards them. Proposing projects on localized environmental contamination studies to sensitize public and Government to prevent any environmental and associated health hazards. The Institute engages especially in providing solutions to urgent environmental problems through their Ph.D. programme. As a portal to research in worldwide environmental affairs, the AIETSM has established a network of National/International scientists, research scholars that supports the Institute’s objectives and activities and passes on additional research impulses in the shape of scientific advice and joint research. This places the institute at a vantage point when it comes to ‘Learning by Doing’ via frequent interactions through industry, other Universities, Ministries and research labs with live projects.

The three projects have been completed successfully from MoES, MoEF and DST. Other ongoing schemes are user’s scheme, Rajiv Gandhi fellowship, etc. Various national conferences/seminars/workshops has been organized to provide a platform to deliberate on environmental toxicology, soil, water, air contamination and impacts on human health and green technological approaches answer these challenges. The institute offers a Doctorate Program in Environmental Sciences for both full time (FT) and part time (PT) students. After successfully completion of Ph.D. credit courses, rigorous literature review is carried out to instill a passion for information and the ability to apply that knowledge to research problems.

ACTIVITIES OF THE INSTITUTE (LINK OF PRESENTATION)

Location: The institute is located in sprawling campus of AUUP, Noida, National capital Region (NCR) of Delhi, India.
Aim of AIETSM:
  • Analysis of Xenobiotics,  pollutants and toxins in water, soil and air
  • Identification of current burning issues in environmental pollution with special reference to India and working on the case studies
  • Development of courses on environmental toxicology, occupational health & safety, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and management
  • Generating human resources for specialized research and academics in environmental science, toxicology, health, safety and management
  • Spreading environmental awareness through effective oral, written communication, workshops, seminars, conferences and documentation
  • Developing research facilities meeting the GLP compliance for environmental research laboratory and validation of methods
  • Interdisciplinary approach for contemporary environmental issues with the social sciences, humanities, natural and life sciences
  • Use of software for data processing, information management and research in environmental science, toxicology, health and safety management
