                              National Conference on

"Earth and Environment: Pollution and Prevention" January 28-30, 2014, Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Sector – 125, Noida.

Aims and Objectives:

The modern civilization has left its footprint on earth in the form of degradation of environment and deterioration in ability to support life forms. One of the greatest problems, world is facing today is that of environmental pollution, increasing with every passing year and causing grave and irreparable damage to the earth. Global warming and climate change are issues of serious concern which have arisen as a result of earth and environmental pollution leading to natural disasters.

Until relatively recently in humanity’s history, where pollution has existed, it has been primarily a local problem. The industrialization of society, and the explosion of the human population, however, has caused an exponential growth in the production of goods and services. Coupled with this growth has been a tremendous increase in waste by-products. The indiscriminate discharge of untreated industrial and domestic wastes into waterways, the spewing of thousands of tons of particulates and airborne gases into the atmosphere, the “throwaway” attitude towards solid wastes, and the use of newly developed chemicals without considering potential consequences have resulted in global warming and climate change. The entire human race, life and earth are in danger because of consequences of major environmental disasters. Extreme weather conditions, drought, temperature rise, glacier melting, flooding, excessive rainfall, storms , high intensity cyclones hitting the coastal areas and scanty water in rivers in the long term are all the results of climate change posing risk of devastation to earth and existence of mankind.

Over the course of the twenty-first century, growing recognition of the environmental and public health impacts associated with anthropogenic activities has prompted the development and application of methods and technologies to reduce the effects of pollution i.e. clean technologies. The conference aims to provide an orientation towards the level, kinds, means of pollution and methods that may be applied to control and prevent environmental pollution to save earth. Eliminating negative impacts on the quality of water, air or land would be discussed. The shifting emphasis from control to prevention would be considered. The limitations of building solutions for environmental restoration would be examined.

The pollution prevention approaches, use of processes, practices, materials and energy that avoid or minimize the creation of pollutants and wastes at source besides “add-on” abatement measures are need of the hour. The conference proposes to draw attention to the societal benefits in reducing risks to ecosystem and human health. The conference would help identify principles that can be usefully applied in accessing opportunities for pursuing eco-friendly approach.
