“When individuals make a collective conscious endeavour they can transform society into a beautiful mosaic” The programme aims to give a thorough training in Psychology. It aims to introduce to the students the wide range of approaches that constitute psychology and students have the opportunity to apply their knowledge. They are made aware of the current research & its methods, its application, and learn how to evaluate research and carry it out themselves. The programme curriculum has been designed keeping in mind a holistic approach. Inclusion of subjects like History, Sociology, Philosophy & Logic gives our students an upper hand when it comes to preparation for civil services & other competitive examination. The programme aims to provide the students with the foundation skills for further study and research; and to equip them with a range of transferable skills of potential value to future employers. Psychology graduates move into an extremely wide range of careers with ample opportunities in hospitals, schools, management, NGOs, Social Welfare Sectors, Training Industry and extending to many other professional roles. |
This course is envisaged to provide an understanding about the discipline to the students with special emphasis on the application of the different aspects of psychology. It is a modern and progressive area of study and, despite having a 150-year history, is currently experiencing unprecedented growth and development nationally and internationally. Across the programme, all the key areas of psychology are studied, including practical and project work. Upon successful completion of the degree, depending upon the final grade, graduates will be eligible to apply to enter postgraduate training programmes in their chosen specialization and ultimately gain employment in their area of expertise.
The need for qualified counselors has never been felt more acutely. With the multifarious demands of both work and family life, the incidence of mental and physical ill health is rising. The tension and pressures of life are not confined to working people and professionals alone but have also percolated down to school going children. In fact, the social system as a whole is showing signs of strain. It is not surprising; therefore, to see an alarming rise in people seeking help from mental health professionals. Despite the increasing demand, there is a dearth of trained psychologists. Looking at the societal demands, the course has been designed to give the students knowledge and help them understand the application of psychology in various settings.
In modern times, professional psychologists work in almost every sphere of daily life. The Course contributes to a basic understanding of human behaviour, psychological principles and theories which can be applied in any work settings. Some of the areas may include: teaching industry the best ways to select and motivate employees, providing crucial insight into the background of social problems such as suicide, addiction and child abuse. They also help coaches train athletes, help the police to investigate crime, help managers to reduce stress in the workplace and help the health services to design effective health promotion campaigns (for example, anti-smoking and safe driving campaigns).
