Definition:
Physiotherapy means modern physiotherapeutic system of medicine and it includes: Examination, treatment, advice and instruction to any person preparatory to or for the purpose of or in connection with movement dysfunction, bodily malfunction, physical disorder/disability, healing and pain from injury, diseases, physical and mental conditions using physical agent, activities and devices including exercises, mobilization manipulation and electrotherapy for diagnosis, prevention and treatment. This is with the global aim of improving functional independence.Scope
- Physiotherapist are employed in all general hospitals and also in specialty and super specialty hospitals run by the government and non-government organizations, with a role also in critical care, early intervention programs with the national health delivery system, emphasizing community based rehabilitation. Physiotherapists are also working at district levels and community health centers and will be engaged in primary health Centers in near future.
- Today majority of Physiotherapists are engaged in Private Practice in poly clinics or their own clinics and carry out referral as well as first contact practice.
- Foreign employment and professional up-gradation program are accessible to qualified physiotherapists.
Objectives of the course:
- To detect & evaluate the Anatomical, Patho-physiological impairments, resulting in dysfunction of various age groups, & occupation; as well as epidemiological sectors in the population, & arrive at appropriate diagnosis.
- To understand the rationale & basic investigative approach to the medical system & surgical Intervention regimens; & accordingly plan & implement specific Physio-Therapy measures effectively.
- To be able to select strategies for cure & care; adopt restorative, & rehabilitative measures for Maximum possible independence of a client at home, work place & in the community.
- To develop in-depth appraisal of clinical & functional problems; to adopt a problem solving approach, to be able to make the best professional judgments for realistic acceptance & related satisfaction of a Client.
- To maintain healthy relationship & Co-partnership with various professionals in the health delivery System in the primary interest of a client.
- To ensure quality assurance & motivate the client & her/his family for a desirable client compliance.
- To develop communication skills for the purpose of transfer of suitable technique to be used creatively at various stages of treatment, compatible with psychological status of the beneficiary.
- To promote health in general, as well as competitive level, such as sports, work Productivity, Geriatrics, Women's health etc, keeping in mind National health policies.
- To practice professional autonomy & ethical principles with referral as well as first contact clients in conformity with ethical code for Physiotherapists.

The Amity Physiotherapy College, which is affiliated to Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi imparts full time training in physiotherapy for four years followed by six months’ internship (4½ years) leading to Bachelor of Physiotherapy Degree (BPT). APC is duly approved by the Delhi Council for Physiotherapy & Occupational Therapy (DCP&OT) and the Indian Association of Physiotherapists (IAP).
The Bachelor of Physiotherapy course provides systematic Physiotherapy education in theory as well as practical with an emphasis on clear concepts and basics. This helps the students in critical analysis, decision-making leading to detailed therapeutic treatment. This enables the students to emerge as thorough responsible professionals as well as create a necessary knowledge base for advanced education in specialized clinical practice.
The graduation programme in physiotherapy will provide the basis for entry into professional physiotherapy practice. The graduates are prepared with the necessary and thorough base to practice in a variety of setting including government and private hospitals, old age homes, gymnasiums, clinics, fitness centers, industrial area, and areas of sports. The also have the opportunity to start their own private clinics.
The program also emphasizes on leadership roles as well as team work effort to provide best treatment and care for the individual.
