
A seminar on 'Liability Insurance' was organized at Amity Campus, Noida by Amity School of Insurance and Actuarial Science on 19th May, 2005. The seminar highlighted that the liability insurance has assumed much greater significance in the recent times owing to growing demand for corporate governance and transparency in operations, accountability, increased public awareness about the rights of individuals and the pressures of consumer activist groups. The fact that the court awards are not subject to any limits and the scope of liability risk is quite vast entailing liability to public for any wrong, out of use of any hazardous materials or defective product or any professional activity etc., added to the importance of liability insurance.

The Chief Guest, Mr.Jonathan E. Michael, President & CEO of RLI Corp., USA, a product-focused company mainly underwriting Casualty insurance, gave some interesting insights into the trends in US industry as well as the proposed changes relating to State Regulation, tort reform, broker-compensation and risk transfers. A presentation on Perspective of Liability Insurance in India was also made by Mr.Ajay Dadwal, Managing Director, Corporate Risks India Pvt. Ltd. which was followed by interaction with those present. The seminar was well attended by participants from the insurance companies, insurance broking houses, people from industries, public and the students. The Golden Leadership Awards were also presented to Mr.Dalip Verma, CEO of Tata AIG General Ins. Co. for 'Best HR Practices and Mr.Sandeep Bakhshi, CEO of ICICI Lombard General Ins. Co. for 'Innovative Products' by Mr.Atul Chauhan, President, Ritnand Balved Education Found on behalf of the Amity Foundation on this occasion.
