Five day workshop for National Certification Examination for Energy Managers and Energy Auditors organised by Amity Institute of Energy & Environment

Amity Institute of Energy & Environment organized a preparatory non-residential course for “National Certification Examination for Energy Managers and Energy Auditors” which commenced from March 21, 2006 at Amity, New Delhi.

Mr. N.N. Gautam, Full Time Advisor, UNDP/GEF (Global Environmental Fund)-Government of India CBM Project inaugurated the progamme. He remarked, “Energy is the basic requirement for survival of the human being and is essential for better quality of life. We are a developing country and per capital consumption of energy is the parameter of any developed country. India is using more fossil fuel than other fuels whereas global trend is to move from fossil fuel to other fuels. Energy security is critical component for a countries economic life. India ranks fifth in world in terms of energy consumption. By year 2025 installed capacity is projected to 6 lakhs mega watts and it is projected that contribution of Natural Gas will increase from 7 percent to 20 percent.”

Welcoming the delegates, Mr. S.K. Chawla, Director, Amity Institute of Energy & Environment said, “Environment is an important issue. Coal which caters 50-55% forces us to think on environment issues. We have got 250 billion tons of coal reserves which is likely to last for next 50 years. Talking on renewable energy sources he said that we are the fourth largest wind producer in world but it is 1% of total energy mix, solar contributes 0.5% and hydel makes 2% of total mix. We have to rely on non-renewable sources because renewable makes just 5% of total energy requirement. Renewables are the most inconvenient mode of energy because it is not storable and it has to be converted to the secondary source”.

Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, Founder President, Ritnand Balved Education Foundation stated, “Road transport is costlier than railways as far as energy consumption is concerned. Country needs to promote mass road transport system (MRTP) which is fuel efficient. Office hours can be drawn to use maximum exposure of sun energy, citing the example of China where office hours start at 7:00 a.m. and no one works after sunset. Energy saved is energy produced. Need has been felt for having energy managers and auditors in every Organization having a sanctioned load of 500 KVA or are consuming more than 30, 000 litres of diesel.”
