Delegates from Scottish Mission and British Council visit Amity

A delegation consisting of 20 members from Scottish Mission and British Council visited Amity University Campus, Noida. Ms. Ruchika Castelino- Head Education UK, India, Ms. Neena Jacob Manager Research and Promotion- India from the British Council and Dr. Roy Cross Director British Council Scotland accompanied the members of the delegation. The visit was aimed to identify mutually beneficial partnership opportunities, in areas such as curriculum development and capacity building that shall attract support under future rounds of UK- India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI). Dr. Roy Cross, Director, British Council Scotland addressed Amity Directors and faculty and said, “The objective of the visit are to build understanding of Indian Government’s priorities for Vocational Education Training (VET), give an overview of the government policy context within Scotland in relation to Vocational Education Training (VET), improve knowledge of the strengths and expertise within the Indian college sector, inform colleagues on the strengths and expertise within Scotland’s college sector, explore potential for stronger links between our colleges, government and employers and seek twinning arrangements to Share best practice in vocational education and training”.

Maj (Gen) K.J. Singh, Vice Chancellor, Amity University welcomed the delegation and commented, “This mission is arranged to explore the potential for partnerships and policy exchange between Government and education providers in Scotland and India. There are a number of very successful partnerships already in place between the two countries and their is a possibility to explore the potential for strengthening our links further. This mission is designed to support the UK- India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI) which was launched in September 2005”.

Ms. Julia Weedon, International Manager, Edinburgh’s Telford College said, “Presently 888 students applicants are from India. There is diverse range of jobs available in Scotland wherein most popular sectors like engineering, technology, business and administrative studies, finance and IT. International students, who graduate from Scotland Colleges with a Higher National Diploma (HND) can apply to work in Scotland for two years after study. The vision is to make Scotland a leading country that India engages within interm of education, skills and workforce development”.
