First workshop on Mathematics Olympiad inaugurated at Amity Centre for Olympiad Science and Technology

Amity crossed another milestone by organising the first workshop on Mathematics Olympiad in collaboration with Srinavasan Ramanujan Institute for Mathematical Sciences, SASTRA Deemed University, Kumbhkonam. The workshop was inaugurated by Padambhushan Prof. V.S. Ramamurthy, Former Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, Dr. S. Swaminathan, Director, Centre for Nanotechnology & Advanced Biomaterials SASTRA, Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, Founder President, Ritnand Balved Education Foundation, Dr. (Mrs.) Amita Chauhan, Chairperson, Amity International Schools, Mr. H.P. Vyas with the traditional lighting of lamp.

Padambhushan Prof. V.S. Ramamurthy, Former Secretary, Department of Science and Technology opined that our country had produced many great mathematicians like Aryabhatt, Bhaskaracharya, Govindswami, Ramanujan, Sarvapally Radhakrishnan and it feels happy to see the inclination of students towards a subject like mathematics. Mathematics Olympiad is an opportunity for students to prove their skills towards the subject and enhance their mathematical aptitude. Prof. Ramamurthy identified the challenge to find subject centric students who have capacity to analyse, be innovative, raise questions and are capable to accept tough tasks. Through Maths Olympiad institutions can identify outstanding students and train them for international level competitions.

Dr. S. Swaminathan, Director, Centre of Nanotechnology and advanced Biomaterials affiliated with Sastra Deemed University, Kumbhakonam, Tamilnadu addressed the audience regarding Srinavasan Ramanujan Institute and new techniques introduced in the field of mathematics, science and technologies. SASTRA organizes the SASTRA National Level Mathematics Olympiad Contest for XIth and XIIth students to encourage them to pursue mathematics as a career option. University offers various undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Engineering, Science, Management and Arts besides various Doctoral programmes. He lauded the efforts of Amity in pioneering this training programme and offered help in providing expertise to Amity.

Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, Founder President, Ritnand Balved Education Foundation said that it is a great moment for Amity to organise Mathematics Olympiad workshop in collaboration with SASTRA University which will help students, who have interest in Mathematics, to excel and aspire to be the Nobel Laureates for the country. Dr. Chauhan said that Mathematics is such a huge and complex subject in which continuous research work needs to be done and promised to adopt five students every year from poor families.

Welcoming the participants Dr. (Mrs.) Amita Chauhan, Chairperson, Amity International Schools, promised to hold more of such workshops in the area of Physics and Chemistry as well. With this workshop students will not only get prepared for Mathematics Olympiad but will also get knowledge about different dimensions of Mathematics.

Over 300 students from different Schools of Delhi, NCR areas including Delhi Public School, Noida, Mathura Road and R.K. Puram; Convent of Jesus & Mary, Mayo College Ajmer, Cambridge School, Srinivaspuri, Mother’s International, St. Thomas School, Pratibha Vikas Vidyalaya and Loreto Convent participated.
