Shri Bhairon Singh Shekhawat releases the book on Swami Vivekananda

‘Vivekanandacharitamritam’- a book on the life of Vivekananda was released by Shri Bhairon Singh Shekhawat , Hon’ble Vice-President of India on 6th June, 2005 at Conference Hall, Vice President’s House. The book is authored by Dr. Ganesh Dutt Sharma and is published by Amity University Press.

Dr. Ganesh Dutt Sharma, an erudite Sanskrit scholar, has been the Head, Sanskrit Department of Nanak Chand Post Graduate College, Meerut for two decades. The book unfolds the life of Swami Vivekananda by explaining his teachings and sermons and explaining the beliefs and ideologies of the Great Saint. The book has been written in three languages; Sanskrit, Hindi and English. On the release function Dr. Sharma commented, “Our ethics and values may be different but Sanskrit connects us to our roots. The teachings of Swami are still useful and it is the right of civilization to know about him.”

Shri Bhairon Singh Shekhawat on the occasion commented, “The teachings of Swami Vivekananda are still relevant and useful and if we all make use of his sermons it would help us to find solution to our problems. The teachings of Vivekananda are a blend of the spirituality of Hindu’s, warmth of Buddhist’s, affection of Christian’s and the brotherhood of Muslim’s.” He further lauded the thought process of the author and use of simple language in the book.

Dr. Ashok K Chauhan, President- Amity Sanskrit Foundation and Founder President –Ritnand Balved Education Foundation appreciating the efforts of the author said, “The book defines an important moment in Indian History. Not only the book will enlighten the world with the teachings of Swami Vivekananda but also add to the prestige of India.”

On the occasion, Shri Murli Manohar Joshi, Former Minister HRD added, “The life of Swami Vivekananda in itself is an epic. To know about the life of Swami Vivekananda there can be no better book than this. If Hindi unites with the country and English with the world, Sanskrit unites with the Universe.” Enumerating the importance of the book Shri Joshi added that the book is a value-addition in Sanskrit Literature because of its simple language and would encourage people to read it.

The other eminent people present on the occasion were Shri Amar Singh, Shri Kalraj Mishra and Shri Jagdambika Pal who expressed their views on the importance and relevance of Swami’s teachings in contemporary world.
