Russian Language Students of Amity University Gurgaon participated in Days of Russia in India

The students of Russian language at Amity University Gurgaon were invited to participate in the /Days of Russia in India’organised at Centre of Russian Studies, SLL & CS, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.

Days of Russia was celebrated to commemorate the 70 years of Indo-Russian Diplomatic Relations. JNU is celebrating the 70th years of Indo-Russian Diplomatic Relation and also 100 years of the Russian revolution. It honoured the importance of the event with a month-long event of Cultural Festival, conference, workshop, Olympiad.

The students of Russian Language, Amity School of Languages, AUG enthusiastically participated in the Olympiad. The students were prepared by Russian faculties Mr Subhash Kumar and Mr Sudarshan Raja.

The 12th of October was dedicated to ‘Days of Russia in India' and organized an inter-university Olympiad based on an understanding of Russian language, history, culture, and geography. The 7 teams, one from each of these universities: DU, JNU, Amity University Noida, Amity University Gurgaon, IGNOU, RCSC and Jamiya University, participated in the Olympiad.

From Amity University, Gurgaon Renu (B. Sc. Bio-Tech. Sem-III), Sabina Machamasi (B. Optom. Sem- III) and Pranshu Sharma (B. Sc. Forensic Science. Sem- IV) participated in the Olympiad.

The questions included basic knowledge of Russian language, history of Kiev Rus, Russian Empire, Soviet Union and modern Russia. Questions were asked from Russian grammar related to the number, gender of nouns, adjectives and pronouns, verbs and jumbled words. Amity students performed very well and bagged the third position in the Olympiad. All the candidates were congratulated and given certificates for their performance.

The quiz competition was followed by an exhibition of Russian artifacts, paintings, musical instruments, games and miniature lifestyle dolls. The students also experienced a taste of the Russian way of life.

The students not just came back with some major achievements but also had the first-hand experience of interacting with native Russian speakers (teachers and students). They also soaked and reveled in the unique beauty of Russian culture through their participation in cultural programmes, exhibition, and the food festival. The overall experience was very fruitful as not only were the faculty and students of AUG recognised for their profound efforts in the field of Russian Studies, but the students also found it to be immensely enriching and educative.
