Amity Institute of Biotechnology organizes a National Seminar on Current Trends in Life Sciences on10th November 2017

Amity Institute of Biotechnology, Amity University Madhya Pradesh, Gwalior organised a ‘National Seminar on Current Trends in Life Sciences-2017’ on 10th Nov. 2017. The National seminar was inaugurated by lamp lighting ceremony followed by Saraswati vandana in the presence of chief guest Prof.(Dr.) R.J. Rao, Rector, Jiwaji University, Gwalior along with    Lt. Gen. V. K. Sharma, AVSM (Retd.), Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Prof.(Dr.) M.P. Kaushik, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Amity University Madhya Pradesh and  Prof. (Dr.) R.S. Tomar, {Director-AIB, Dean (Life Sciences) & Dean(Academics)} Convener of the seminar and other dignitaries.

After felicitation of chief guest, the programme was started with the welcome address by Hon'ble Vice Chancellor Lt. Gen. V. K. Sharma, AVSM (Retd.) followed by chief guest address by Prof. (Dr.) R. J. Rao, Rector, Jiwaji University. Afterwards, abstract book of the National Seminar was released by dignitaries present on the dais. In the continuation, keynote address on the topic ‘Metabolic Syndrome and Therapeutic Approaches’ was delivered by Prof.(Dr.) G.B.K.S. Prasad, Coordinator, Centre for Food Technology, Centre for Translational Research, School of Studies in Biochemistry, Jiwaji University, Gwalior.

After the high-tea, technical sessions commenced with poster session-I in AIB Block B. The main technical session was started from 12.00 pm with invited talk of Prof.(Dr.) Ishan Patro, Jiwaji University on the topic ‘No health without mental health’. The session was chaired and co-chaired by Prof. (Dr.) GBKS Prasad and Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Singh Tomar respectively. The second invited lecture in this session was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Nalini Srivastava, Jiwaji University, Gwalior on the topicInvolvement of oxidative stress in toxicity of organophosphate pesticides’ followed by an oral presentation delivered by Dr. Sadhana Shrivastava, Jiwaji University, Gwalior on the topic ‘Estimation of Acrylamide in Food items”.

A parallel session II (Biochemistry & Medical Biochemistry) was started from 12.00 pm with the invited talk delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Neelima Singh on the topic ‘Glycogen phosphorylase BB: A more sensitive and specific marker for early diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction’. This session was chaired and co-chaired by Prof. (Dr.) Neelima Singh, Department of Biochemistry, G R Medical College and Dr. Shuchi Kaushik, AIB, AUMP respectively. The second invited talk in this session was delivered by Dr. Jyoti Priyadarshini Shrivastava, G. R. Medical College, Gwalior on the topic ‘Applications of   Nanotechnology in Health Care’ followed by two consecutive oral presentations by Anjali Sharma (Jiwaji University) on the topic ‘Effect of S-band Electromagnetic radiation on Male Wistar Rats’ and by Chhavi Uthra (Jiwaji University)  on the topic ‘Rutin reverses acrylamide induced hepatorenal alterations: A Biochemical and Histopathological Approach’.

After a lunch break from 13.00 pm to 13.45 pm, technical session III (Microbiology and Microbial Technology) was started. This session was chaired and co-chaired by Dr. D.T. Selvam (Scientist F, DRDE, Gwalior) and Dr. Raghvendra K. Mishra (AIB, AUMP) respectively. During this session posters were also presented and evaluated under poster session II in AIB Block B. This session was started with the invited talk delivered by          Dr. D.T. Selvam on the topic ‘Role of Bioinformatics & Computational biology in identification of targets for development of detection assays for biological warfare agents’ followed by a second talk of the session delivered by Dr. D.S. Rathore (K.R.G.P.G. college, Gwalior) on the topic ‘Diversity and succession of fungi on finished leather & leather articles with their biochemical aspects under different climatic conditions’. This session also included oral presentation of Ms. Amrita Saha (DRDE, Gwalior) on the topic ‘In-vitro screening of small molecule inhibitors (SMI) against Chikungunya virus’.

The technical session IV (Pharmaceutical and Medical Biotechnology) was started from 13:45 to 14:45. The session was chaired by Prof. (Dr.) R.K. Singh, Head, Toxicology & Experimental Medicine department, CSIR-Central Drug Research Institute, Lucknow and   co-chaired by Dr. Anurag Jyoti (AIB, AUMP). Dr. R.K. Singh delivered a talk on the topic ‘Invention of a new molecule RISUGadv for the prevention of prostate cancer’. This session carried oral presentations, delivered by Dr. Ajay Sharma on the topic ‘Camptothecin estimation and antiarthritic activity of Nothapodytes foetida Linn fruits in Freund's adjuvant induced arthritic rat model’ and by Ms. Neha Prasad on the topic ‘Antihyperglycemic Dietary Supplement: Functional & Nutraceutical Chiwda’.

The final technical session (Environmental and Industrial Biotechnology) held in Block B was chaired by Prof. (Dr.) Avinash Tiwari, Jiwaji University, and co-chaired by    Dr. Vikas Shrivastava (AIB, AUMP). Session observed invited talks by Prof.(Dr.) Avinash Tiwari (Jiwaji University) and Dr. V. K. Sharma (Assistant Director, JALMA, Agra) on the topics ‘Carbon Sequestration and Ecosystem Services for Sustainable’ and ‘Electron microscope: Emerging as a Powerful tool for Research in Life Science’ respectively. Oral presentation was given by Ms. Sangeeta Sharma (Jiwaji University) on the topic ‘Environmental Assay’ and ‘Carbon sequestration potential of tree biomass in Sacred and Non-sacred groves of Gwalior district’.

In the valedictory session Prof. (Dr.) R.K. Singh, Head, Toxicology & Experimental Medicine department, CSIR-CDRI was present as chief guest and Vice-Chancellor AUMP, Lt. Gen. V. K. Sharma AVSM (Retd.) addressed participants, students and faculty members. Closing remarks was given by Prof.(Dr.) M.P. Kaushik, Pro-Vice Chancellor, AUMP. Best Oral presentation was awarded to Ms. Sangeeta Sharma (Jiwaji University). First prize in poster presentation was awarded to Ms. Bhavna Tomar (KRG PG College, Gwalior) and second prize in poster was given to Ms. Twinkle Gupta and Ms. Riya Singh Rajawat from AIB, AUMP, Gwalior. Prizes for were distributed by chief guest and Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor AUMP. The concluding remark of the National Seminar was given by Convener of the seminar Prof.(Dr.) R.S. Tomar. In his remark, Prof.(Dr.) Tomar mentioned that 10 subject experts delivered the invited talks and more than 110 research papers from different universities and research institutions across the country were presented during the seminar. In the last, vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Raghvendra Kumar Mishra. He mentioned the efforts made by everyone during the seminar. Dr. Mishra appreciated the hard work done by all the students of AIB and secretaries of the national seminar; Dr. Vikas Shrivastava, Dr. Shuchi Kaushik, Dr. Anurag Jyoti, Dr. Sushmita Shrivastava, Dr. Raghvendra Saxena, Dr. Pratistha Dwivedi, Dr. Manish Kumar and Ms. Sharmistha Banerjee.
