Guest Lecture On - How To Develop Content From Literature And Mythology For Hindi GEC

Corporate Resource Center team of Amity University Mumbai arranged a corporate interaction session for Amity School of Communication students at the campus. The honourable guest was Mrs. Rachana Bhandari Kapoor, senior content developer Star India. She is a story lover and a story teller, has written short and shared stories in all their hues-- cinema, advertising ,radio, small screen shows, channel IDs , brand IDs, award shows scripts. She handles content ideation and new shows development in the content Engine of Star plus. Her most recent concept has been developed into a prime time medical drama- "Umeed ki nay kiran- roshni".  Her topic of discussion was how to develop content from literature and mythology for Hindi GEC.

She was particularly talking about how the content should be a reflection of the society, the books from which tv content must be developed should have a linear storyline, but the way it must be presented has to be the non-linear way. Various mythological stories can be adapted into daily drama just extracting the universal truth and soul of the story. She also pointed out that all novels cannot be transformed into TV series, sometimes it could be a finite show or a long running show. She gave a brief idea about the history of tv series in India and compared with storytelling technique in films. There was a crowd of 150 students, and there was an activate participation from the students as well faculty members in the Q/A segment.

There was a long chat about why the youth of the society is not addicted to television now a days. The screens and mediums have changed and thus the content for different age groups have also been segregated. Traditionally, television is targeted to the age group of 35 and above. The younger crowd has shifted to new media as a lack of good content and the developers are reluctant to experiment with new appealing ideas. Thus, the content developers and audience both are responsible for this consequence. On the whole, it was a brilliant session and a leaning experience where a lot of new perspectives about television were discussed.
