Amity School of Engineering & Technology, Amity University Madhya Pradesh workshop organizes “AmiChem 2017-18” an Experimental Chemistry on 17 January, 2018

The Department of Chemistry, Amity School of Engineering & Technology, Amity University Madhya Pradesh organized the first Experimental Chemistry Workshop “AmiChem2017-18 on January 17th, 2018. This one day workshop was organized to engage the high school students in a variety of presentations, demonstrations, and hands-on activities related to their curriculum to increase interest and understanding of the Chemical Sciences. AmiChem2017-18 Workshop series enabled the students to gain a deeper insight into concepts and would lead to greater rewards in the performance. 78 students and 4 teachers from the following schools of Gwalior participated in the workshop:

4.      Army Public School

5.      IRA World School

6.      Touchstones School

7.      Rani Awanti Bai Public School

8.      No.1 Airforce School

9.      Ebenezer Higher Secondary School

10.  Sunrise Public School

11.  Delhi Public Academy

12.  Greenwood Public School

13.  LSTM Public Higher Secondary School

14.  IATS Public School

 

The programme started with the registrations of participants. The inaugural session started with auspicious lamp lighting by the Programme Chairperson Maj Gen (Dr) S C Jain, VSM** (Retd.), Director ASET, AUMP. This was followed by Saraswati Vandana. The Students and faculties from the participating school were welcomed.

Dean Research Prof. (Dr.) S. P. Bajpai, Dean Academics Prof. (Dr.) R. S. Tomar, Registrar Shri Rajesh Jain, Deans, HoIs, HoDs, faculty members of Amity University and participants were present on the occasion.

Programme Chairperson Maj. Gen. (Dr.) S. C. Jain, VSM** (Retd.), Director ASET, AUMP delivered the opening remarks and enlightened the participants with the importance of practical training in Chemical Sciences. He spoke about the importance of involving students in inquiry-based labs.

He emphasized that “AmiChem2017-18” Workshop series would enable the students to gain a deeper understanding of concepts and will encourage them to take greater participation in the laboratory activities. As understanding increases, it enhances the confidence of the student. He said that increased confidence will lead more students to pursue the course which are known to have components of chemistry. This improved attitude of the students will also help them in scoring better marks in the competitive examinations.

With the help of hand-outs provided to the students and with detailed discussions on the topics covered, faculty of Chemistry, Dr. Rachana Kathal, (HoD), Dr. Divya Singh, Dr. Sakshi Singh and Mr. Neelesh Mishra presented to the students the amazing & colourful world of Experimental Chemistry with multiple ideas for labs that are inquiry based.

The participants were then taken to the laboratories for hands on experiments. Under the keen supervision of the subject faculty, they were allowed to perform and see the actual procedures and results. Students also enjoyed the informal session with Director ASET, (Dr.) S. C. Jain, VSM** (Retd.) when he challenged their innovative minds with some interesting Lateral Thinking Sessions.

The participants enjoyed the visit to all the technical laboratories of ASET, AUMP. Faculties of respective departments demonstrated various experiments to the students.

After the experiment sessions, the one day workshop ended with the scheduled quiz containing questions from the lessons taught in the workshop experiments. Major Gen. (Dr.) S. C. Jain, VSM** (Retd.), Director ASET, AUMP then addressed the participants for encouraging their interest in the various cultural and educational programs held in the university all through the year.

After refreshments, the joyous participants boarded the buses to their school.
