Model United Nations

Model United Nations concluded with the Valedictory ceremony at Amity University Raipur on August 12th. MUN is an academic simulation of the United Nations that aims to educate participants about current events, topics of global concern, international relations, diplomacy and the United Nations agenda. The 2-day event saw participation from almost 300 students from across India. The judges for the event arrived from far off locations including UK, Delhi, Mumbai and Nagpur. The event was coordinated by 20 organizing committees. 

The Chief Guest for the opening ceremony IAS officer Mr. Alex Paul Menon, CEO ChiPs, emphasized upon the contribution of such sessions to improve the debating and negotiation skills of students. These skills play a vital role at the time of stating arguments during in the making of a Public Policy, said Mr Menon. At the commencement of the program, specially-abled children from Kopalvani Public School presented a group performance. The spirited performance by the hearing-impaired children received standing ovation from the audience. 

In the Valedictory ceremony; Dr. Surajit C Mukhopadhyay (Registrar), Prof. Vidya Singh (Convener for the event) of Amity University Raipur, and Mr. Praveen Goel (President, Discernment International Summit addressed the gathering. The ceremony progressed as the participating committees submitted their Draft Resolutions to be sent over to UNDESCO and the executive board members distributed prizes to the winners. 

Towards the conclusion of the program, the Secretary General, DIS, Ms. Vanshika Agrawal gave away Best Delegate award. This was the first edition of Model United Nations in Chhattisgarh. In the pioneer edition, the students simulated United Nations’ six organs, namely UNSC, UNHRC, UNICEF, UNW, UNGA and International Press. 

The faculties of Amity University Raipur provided extensive support in planning, logistics and hospitality that made this event a great success. Various faculties from other schools in Raipur attended the event as well.
