Colloquium Organised By Law School on “Are Vices Crimes?”

A colloquium on “Are Vices Crimes” was organised at Amity Law School, Mumbai, on October 12, 2018, which led to an academic movement enhancing intellectual activities in the Mumbai Campus. The application for participation was restricted only to the students of Amity Law School, Mumbai.

On the onset of the colloquium, the moderator explained the participants about various facets and rules of the colloquium. A reader, pertaining to the topic was provided beforehand to the students to go through the contents and glance through the arguments of the author.

A group of 23 students sat together in a closed circle and decrypted the tonalities of the topic. The discussion was compartmentalised into four sections – Against Autonomy: Justifying Coercive Paternalism; Vices Are Not Crimes; Ain’t Nobody’s Business If You Do; Whither Equality?

The moderator for the colloquium, Mr. Anas Khan, aptly managed the discussion and asked the students at ALSM to ask themselves ‘are vices crimes?’ and explored the gap between vices and crimes in great detail.

Even the Director of Law School and the Vice Chancellor of Amity University, Mumbai gave their inputs for the same encouraging and applauding students in this academic endeavor. The students, through this colloquium, traversed the length and breadth of the terrains of morality, vices and crimes.
