National Unity Day celebrated at Amity University Chhattisgarh

Commemorating the birth anniversary of Independent India's first Home Minister, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Amity University, Raipur, celebrated ‘National Unity Day’ which commenced with hoisting of Tricolor followed by National Anthem sung by faculty and students. As the celebration progressed, Dr V.K. Singh Dahima, Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor, Amity University, Raipur, lit the torch. Carrying the torch, faculty and students made a symbolic ‘Run for Unity’ on the university premises.

The university remembered the pivotal role played by the ‘Iron Man of India’ in keeping India united and securing her territorial integrity when the country obtained her freedom. A ceremonial lamp was lit by Dr B.P. Patnaik, Deputy Registrar of the university as a part of celebrations. He also administered the pledge to protect the Unity, Integrity and Security of India, as envisaged by Sardar Patel. The programme continued with the screening of a video made by Amity School of Communication on the life of Sardar Patel. In the video, Dr. S.C. Mukhopadhyay, Registrar of the university shared his thoughts on efforts made by Sardar Patel on uniting India. Students from all schools of Amity University also expressed their thoughts on Sardar Patel’s efforts in integrating the nation.

Dr Dahima in his welcome address remembered the significance of the day and the immense contribution made by Sardar Patel in nation building when India was facing enormous challenges, acute resource crunch and a lack of self-confidence among people. The students paid tribute to one of the greatest leaders of India through cultural performances, including a Nukkad Natak and a fashion show. Dr. S.C. Nayak, Head of Amity School of Communication, addressed the students in the closing ceremony.
