Amity exhibits revolutionary Concept Cars “India’s First 4 Wheel Drive Baja Vehicle” and “India’s First Tri- Fuel Amity Hybrid Car” during 9th Auto Expo 2008 at Pragati Maidan

The passionate and dedicated budding engineers from Mechanical and Electronics Branch of Amity School of Engineering and Technology (ASET) have created waves in the arena of automobile industry by designing and developing “India’s first 4WD BAJA Vehicle” and “India’s first Tri-Fuel Amity Hybrid Car”, projects initiated under the aegis of Amity Science, Technology and Innovation Foundation (ASTIF).

Amity Concept Cars are exhibited at the 9th Auto Expo, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. On this occasion a Press conference was organized on January 12, 2008 where the members of Team Mettle and Team Hybrid were present to give details about their projects. The conference was attended by Mr. Atul Chauhan, Chancellor, Amity University, Mr. Dilip Chenoy, Director General, SIAM, Mr. Prashant Shah, Vice President (Marketing) – DELPHI.

Seven brilliant minds of ASET together known as “Team Mettle” had the opportunity of participating in BAJA SAE INDIA 2007 held at Pithampur, Indore where they designed prototype of India’s first 4WD BAJA Vehicle” The Vehicle won “Chairman’s Best Effort Award” by Mr. Pawan Goenka- President, Mahindra and Mahindra, India. The concept of the prototype was well appreciated by Mr. Narain Karthikeyan- F1 Racer, Mr. Behram Dhabhar- General Manager (Vehicle Development), Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd. and Mr. Sudhir Kashyap- Senior Manager, Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd.

In an endeavor to promote talent amongst budding engineers, DELPHI – a leading R& D global organization in Automation has also come forward to motivate these students and has extended financial assistance for further research on the prototype. Delphi is a leading global supplier of mobile electronics and transportation systems, including powertrain, safety, steering, thermal, and controls & security systems, electrical/electronic architecture and in-car entertainment technologies.

The Concept Cars were unveiled during week long 9th Auto Expo 2008. The prodigies of ASET spoke about their projects and varied experiences in the fabrication and designing of the cars. Mettle Team comprises of seven students namely Varun Aggarwal (Captain), Abhinav Kumar, Nitin Sharma, Gundeep Singh, Sourabh Kumar, Vibhore Trehan and Akshar Tandon. The faculty advisor was Mr. Keshvendra Choudhary.

Hybrid Team comprises of ten students namely M. Pavan ,Abhay Goyal, Himanshu Gupta, Abhishek Kashyap Kamal Shamnani, Nakul Gupta, Chanderkant Suman, Varun Chawla, , Paras Khanna, Udit Dhingra; supported by Mr. Keshvendra Choudhary; Prof. S B L Garg- HOD, Mechanics and Automation Department, ASET as mentor and Mr. Arun Jindal as Project Guide.

Feeling proud of the achievement of Amitians, Mr. Atul Chauhan- President, Amity said that it is the aim of Amity to promote the talent amongst its students by providing them necessary research oriented and state- of the art infrastructure and financial support so that students can bring laurels to their country and to their nation. Amity has taken several initiatives in this direction and will continue to do so in future also. Talking about the Concept Cars he said that the technologies used in both the cars are contemporary and revolutionary and they will bring a sea change in the automobile arena. He assured that concept cars will be consumer friendly and environment friendly. He opined that though the cars are presently in an elementary stage of its functioning but it can be produced commercially with new enhancements and improvements and will be forerunners to some innovative designs hitting the road in the years to come. He also extended his gratitude to the Corporate who have come forward and encouraged the students to explore unexplored territories.

4WD BAJA vehicle is a 4 wheel drive which gives high torque and better traction. There is also an option to shift from higher torque to higher speeds for increased driver comfort and better handling of the vehicle. I
