Seminar on Career Options for Class XII Students

Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Lt. Gen. V.K Sharma, AVSM (Retd.) being felicitated by Mr. Satyajeet Patankar, Branch Head, Times of India, Gwalior

Most students normally choose their subjects for 12th grade, depending upon their career goal. But some remain in a dilemma as to 'What career to take up next after 12th'

While choosing a career after 12th, a student must consider various factors, most importantly his/her interest, ability to cope with the subject chosen, job opportunities and above all the necessary financial commitments.

Keeping this in mind “The Times of India” conducted a career guidance session at Amity University Madhya Pradesh, Gwalior on Saturday, 16th April 2016. This 2nd in the series Seminar (1st one held on 2nd April) aimed at giving an insight to the students on various career options available to them so that they could make a well-informed choice of programmes after Class XII & before embarking on their career path.

Speaking on the occasion Director CRC & Admissions Mr. Rajat Pathak, showcased the various career opportunities and highlighted the methods of choosing the best career option for them. He discussed the gap between student expectation and the industry demand. According to him, “If you are adventurous you can take up journalism as a career option. With the increasing number of channels and newspaper in the market, the job has high demand. If you are in search of a creative job, you can go for Advertising, Performing Arts, Website Designing, Fashion Designing, Jewelry Designing or Aviation. If you have a flair for writing, you can also take up content writing as a career option.”

Mr. Pathak strongly recommended choosing only the best career option where their interest lay. “Don’t choose that career option where you are not interested. This is the most important step in your life” he said. He also, further added that students shouldn’t choose a career path just because their parents or friends want them to pursue the same BUT should very cautiously look into all the options and choose a career where they have interest.

He further guided about the top 5 available colleges for different courses like BBA, B.COM, BAJMC, B ARCH, Fashion Design & B.TECH and their selection procedure.

An on-spot personality test basis on the theories of Carl G. Jungs [Jung, 1971] was also conducted during the seminar. According to this test people can be characterized by their :

1. Preference of general attitude : Extraverted (E) vs. Introverted (I),

2. Preference of one of the two functions of perception: Sensing (S) vs. Intuition (N),

3. Preference of one of the two functions of Judging : Thinking (T) vs. Feeling (F)
