The Indo-Pacific Association of Law, Medicine and Science (INPALMS )was inaugurated on 16th August 1986 in Colombo, Sri Lanka, during the International Congress. The Constitution was adopted, office bearers and council elected and the location of the Secretariat was decided in order to cater to the needs and coordinate activities of international and individual members. A Newsletter is circulated. The proceedings of most of the congress were published.
The triennial international meeting is hosted by countries in the Indo-Pacific Region and the venue is decided at the General Meeting of INPALMS held during the Congress. The Congress in Sri Lanka was called the 2nd Congress on Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences, to give recognition to the 1st Asian Pacific Congress held in 1983 in Singapore.
India, Thailand, Indonesia, Japan, Australia, Philippines and Sri Lanka followed. Each Congress was accomplished by an Organizing Committee headed by the Chairman, with support from the respective national organizations of the host country. The Chairman was a distinguished forensic personality.
The forthcoming Tenth Congress in India is chaired by a renowned scientist and academic, Professor Prasanta Kumar Chattopadhyay. He was the founder head of the full fledged department of forensic science at the University of Patiala, Punjab. This accomplishment was due to a life long commitment to forensic sciences achieved by a wealth of work experience also gained in the U.K. and several European Centers of excellence and Japan, as visiting professor or as research fellow.
Professor Chattopadhyay has participated actively in both the INPALMS Association and all but one of the triennial Congresses. The wealth of experience of the Chairman and his organizing committee at the Amity University Campus, Noida ( near Delhi) will ensure satisfying and fruitful academic sessions as well as an enjoyable social program for the 2010 Congress
