WORKSHOP ON CREATIVE TECHNIQUES OF ZARDOZI AND CHIKANKARI ART

        A detailed workshop has been organized by Amity school of fashion Technology on creative techniques of zardozi and chikankari under able guidance of Prof. Pooja Verma Director ASFT, coordinated by Dr. Shikha and Chantia and Ms. Gitanjali Jaiswal.

        The workshop was conducted under the guidance of  Mr. Zafar Nabi and Artisan (registered under ministry of textiles, Govt. of India) of Hunar craft creation association to create in-depth knowledge & awareness on embroidery.

        Lucknow, is the birthplace of the famous hand embroidery technique known as Zardozi and Chikankari.  There are many  types of Chikankari stitches which are: Tepchi, bhakhiya , hool, zanzira, jali, Banjkali, Makra, Kauri, Sazi, Karan, Kapkapi, Madrazi, Bulbul-Chasm, Taj Mahal, Chanapatti, Keel Kangan, Sidhaul etc.

        The word 'Zardozi' is made up of two Persian terms, Zar meaning gold and Dozi meaning embroidery. The tools include curved hooks, needles, salmaa pieces (gold wires), sitaaras (metal stars), round-sequins, glass & plastic beads, dabkaa (thread) and kasab (thread). The second step in the process is to trace out the design on the cloth, if possible fabrics like silk, satin, velvet, etc. The fabric is then stretched over the wooden frame and the embroidery work begins.

    
   Three days of the workshop proved to be a wonderful experience for students as they learned different types of stitches and techniques of embroidery has been Demonstrated to students by Artisan. The students freely expressed their creativity and enjoyed making embroidery samples under the guidance of Hunar Creations Craft Associations, number of students got themselves registered for the artisan card issued under ministry of textiles, govt of India. This card will help the students in getting exposures to the projects being run under the guidance of ministry of textiles, Govt of India.
