ABOUT IBRO AND WORKSHOP

The IBRO is a global association of neuroscience societies that aims to promote and support neuroscience in all its aspects around the world through training, education, research, outreach, and engagement activities. IBRO works to address the needs for diversity, equity, and inclusion within the global neuroscience community by advancing the careers of individual scientists and supporting research communities around the world. The travel and hospitality of the resource persons in this workshop have been supported by the IBRO-APRC Speaker Support program. Such support provides targeted funding for smaller neuroscience events, including workshops, with a particular emphasis on enhancing the participation of speakers from diverse backgrounds. The workshop aims to provide a platform to listen to inspiring talks from scientists of repute from within and outside India and to interact with them. It would also act as a forum for scientists to interact, share knowledge, forge interdisciplinary research ecosystem, and build collaborations. The workshop would provide hands-on training sessions, doubt clarification and tutorials to develop skills and learn about recent advancements in emerging trends in neuroscience research. This meeting is being organized with the blessings of Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, hon’ble Founder President, and the guidance of Dr. Atul Chauhan, and Prof. Balvinder Shukla, hon’ble Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Noida, respectively.

ABOUT AMITY UNIVERSITY UTTAR PRADESH NOIDA

Amity University Uttar Pradesh (AUUP) was established over 18 years ago under the aegis of Ritnand Balved Education Foundation, a non-profit education trust. Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, the Founder President of Amity Education Group is a visionary leader, renowned educationist and a philanthropist. The AUUP lays significant emphasis on research and innovation. It is among the leading private universities in India with NAAC A+ accreditation, wherein thousands of students are pursuing degrees in several programs. It has a dedicated team of hundreds of scientists, researchers and faculty members working in the areas of Arts and Humanities; Biosciences and Biotechnology; Engineering; Health and Allied Sciences, Law; Management; Neurosciences and Allied branches; Social Sciences etc. The AUUP is among the early universities in the country to have implemented the New Education Policy (NEP 2020) initiated by Govt of India.

ABOUT AMITY INSTITUTE OF NEUROPSYCHOLOGY AND NEUROSCIENCES

The AINN, AUUP had a modest start about a decade ago, which received a push after the COVID period, since 2022. Currently, AINN is the only institute in the country to offer an undergraduate 4yr B.Sc. (Honours), and (Honours with Research) degrees in Neurosciences under NEP2020; it also offers M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Neurosciences. Both Bachelor’s and Master’s degree pursuing final year students conduct in-house dissertation/research projects. The faculty members of AINN are internationally trained, possessing expertise in diverse fields in neurosciences research including (but not restricted to) Ageing-; Behavioural-; Cellular-; Cognitive-; Computational-; Developmental-; Disease-; Electrophysiological; Molecular-; Sleep, Biorhythm and Consciousness – research using cell-lines, C.elegans, zebrafish, rodents and computational models.

WORKSHOP SUB-THEMES

Hands-on Training and understanding on correlation of molecules to behavioural research as follows:

  • Assays of Biomolecules & Enzyme Kinetics associated with the brain
  • Cell culture, Cellular and Molecular Neurobiology
  • Use of Zebrafish and C. elegans as model organisms in Neuroscience Research
  • Behavioural and Electrophysiological studies in acute and chronic preparation of rodents.
  • Stereotaxic surgery and Histology
  • Computational Neurosciences, Mathematical modelling, and Systems Neurosciences

OBJECTIVES AND EXPECTED OUTCOMES OF THE WORKSHOP

  • The participants are expected to learn handling simpler model systems for conducting neuroscience research and may start a basic neuroscience lab for teaching and research in a modest and cost-effective way.
  • It is expected that the participants will develop a network among the related scientific community among themselves, with the resource persons, as well as with the host Institution.
  • The participants would be ambassadors to spread the message and to attract young, bright, interested students to pursue neuroscience research and teaching as a career.
  • We expect AINN, AUUP to get better visibility and promote neuroscience research and teaching at national and international levels.
  • Promote academic and experimental work and share knowledge in the multiple facets of pharmacology to behaviour, from molecule to brain-behaviour.
  • Bring closer researchers and academicians to share and learn recent trends in neuroscience research.
  • To foster intellectual skills including enquiring, thinking, reasoning, and analysing, about the mechanism(s) underlying brain functions in its totality.
