Workshop on "Importance of Testing in Textile and Apparel Industry"

A workshop was organised by Paramount under “Paramount CSR Activity” at Amity School of Fashion Technology on 7th Aug 2015. The objective of this activity was to bridge the gap between education and industry career in textile and apparel industry

Ms. Jeet Kaur General Manager Paramount Group started with a Team Building session to make students understand the importance of Focus and Communication in their day to day life. Small games related to the same were played by students which relay helped students to understand the importance of Focus

Mr. Manjit Singh Saini CEO and Executive Director Paramount Group, explained the importance of Textile Testing in Apparel industry. He explained various instruments which are required for testing and how testing at one’s own manufacturing unit can save time and money of the manufacturing house.

Ms. Jeet then described Corporate Social Responsibility as commitment by any business to contribute to economic development while improving the quality of life of workforce and their families and societies at large. She briefly explained various tools, technical guidance and standards to be used for CSR.

She also stressed on the importance responsibility towards environment and asked all the students to calculate their ecological footprint.

A workshop was organized by Amity School of Fashion Technology under AMITY DIRECTORATE of APPLIED ARTS / FINE ARTS / PERFORMING ARTS / VISUAL ARTS on 4th Aug 2016 on the topic ““ How An In House Textile Testing Lab can Help You Grow Any Business” .

Sh Manjit Singh Saini shared that after joining PARAMOUNT, he diversified Paramount into Textile Industry and Today Paramount is regarded as Pioneers and Leaders in Textile Testing Instruments, not only in India, but whole of Asia. Paramount is now further diversifying into various other INDUSTRIES.

Workshop on “Trends in Home textiles"

A workshop was organized by Amity School of Fashion Technology under AMITY DIRECTORATE of APPLIED ARTS / FINE ARTS / PERFORMING ARTS / VISUAL ARTS on 28th sept 2016 on the topic “Trends in Home textiles” .

Mr Navin Sawhney who is presently working with a company called " intratuin " in noida..had been invited to conduct this workshop for Textiles Design & Fashion Technology students of ASFT. Mr Navin stated that since Intratuin one of the top garden centres of Europe deals in fashion accessories - home furnishing to handicrafts - -hardgoods to furniture hence he is exposed to product development in all these areas

Mr Navin Sawhney shared his rich experience in the industry as Fashion coordinator to production Head He emphasized on the need of complete knowledge from fiber to fabric .He emphasized on the need of knowledge about fashion forecasting in the Textiles industry & the correct interpretation as per buyer’s requirements.

He exhibited various samples & catalogues of various buyers from Europe & also explained the steps which had been taken during Product development specifically for each buyer according to their preferences.

Workshop on “VISUAL MERCHANDISING "

On Wednesday the 26th October, 2016, Ms. Puneet Bhatia, Entrepreneur, Educationist and Trainer & Ms. Vineeta Kochhar, Educationist and Trainer from VMRD (Visual Merchandising and Retail Design Consultants and Trainers) conducted a half day VM Workshop for the students of ASFT (Amity School of Fashion Technology).

The workshop was well attended by the students of various UG & PG programmes like MA (FRM), MA (FTM), M. Design (FT), B. Sc. (FC) & B. Design (FC). The workshop commenced with the welcome of both the VM practitioners and their introduction. While Ms. Puneet Bhatia is a pass out of NIFT and has done the Luxury Business programme from IIM, Ahmedabad, Ms. Vineeta Kochhar has done the Interior Design programme from NIFD. Both of them are practicing Visual Merchandisers with more than a decade of individual experience cutting across various companies. Their professional association is with reputed companies like Ritu Kumar, Boggi Milano, United Colours of Benetton, Study By Janak, Khadi Gram Udyog, Daks India, Puma, Reebok, Adidas, The Home Store etc.

The half day workshop covered various topics like Definition & Importance of VM, Types of Windows & their use, Importance of Light, Types of dress forms, mannequins etc. The students were then given an exercise, in which they participated whole-heartedly. Ms. Puneet Bhatia & Ms. Vineeta Kochhar also went through the VM models prepared by the students and gave their expert advise on them.

On 21st feb 2019, Delegation from , UNIVERSITY OF NORTHAMPTON , NORTHAMPTON visited ASFT & ASFA for exploring opportunities for bilateral collaboration.

The Delegation comprised of the following members:

Ms. Kate Williams, Head of Journalism & Media – University of Northampton, UK made a presentation on “Portfolio Building & Presentation” . She discussed the relevance of various Boards that make up the Portfolio like Mood Board, Story board, inspiration Board, design development Board, client Board , Swatch Board, Color Board etc and also showed her own Portfolios

She elaborated on the relevance of a good inspiration which may be taken from anywhere from your surroundings or any current work

Ms. Vicki Dean, Subject leader for Fashion, University of Northampton made a presentation on “Natural dyes and cradle to cradle production techniques through the use of permaculture methods” She discussed the relevance of research in area of textiles and also presented her own Research work on Nettle fiber. She elaborated all the steps in her textile research right from tilling of land to final Dyeing & finishing of Yarns

PDP- DIGIBUNAI: CAD tool for Textile Design

Had been conducted at ASFT on 31st Jan 2019 .DigiBunai under Government project “DIGITAL INDIA” has been developed by Digital India Corporation. It is software developed for weaving application to optimize the pre-loom loading process of design creation, generation of graph, and punching the jacquard cards with the ability to view the complete garment digitally with various colour & design combinations and sizes before weaving. It is an open-ware software which is provided free of cost and can serve at least 65-79% requirement of Banarasi Saree handloom workers
In this PDP, Chief scientist officer of this project with his team presented the application and also shared the link by which it can be used by our faculty and students in textile designing free of cost.

The Objectives of the Event were as follows:
  • To understand the scope of “DIGIbunai” software in textile designing
  • To get hands-on knowledge of various tools and their application in designing
  • To understand the method of its usage for research work
  • To explore possibilities of tie-up of student work with DIGITAL INDIA project.

The team from DIGIBUNAI made a presentation and demonstrated the application of the Software in Textile Industry. The use of various Weaves had been validated.

PDP on Trends In Fashion Forecasting had been organized at Amity School of Fashion Technology on 7th Feb 2019 at 2.30 pm in Room No 315, K-I Block, III Floor.
The Fashion industry is moving very fast. Brands/ Retailers are prioritizing and focusing on optimum product, markets and channels and they need their partners to be pro-active and understand trend forecasts, provide actionable insights and accurately enable product performance data. Identifying a trend is a continuous effort of compiling observations. It can be summed up as "hunting and gathering”. Whilst gathering facts, at the root of it is also a personal intuition and an eye for what's next. WGSN Lifestyle & Interiors helps achieve that intuition!

ASFT may project the requirement of WGSN for next annual academic Planning. Faculty members can use WGSN for offering modules related to Trend Forecasting in courses like Fashion Forecasting –I & II, Fashion Forecasting, Minor & Major Projects, Design project I- III, Design Portfolio I- II, Portfolio Development for Fashion I- IV, Portfolio Development for Textiles I- IV, Portfolio Development for Fashion Communication
The team presented the various trends in Fashion apparel, trims, accessories & trends for various categories- menswear, womenswear, Kidswear for Casuals, Formals etc

The PDP helped the Faculty to develop an understanding of the following:
  • The scope of trend forecasting .
  • The application of trend forecasting in Fashion & textile by using WGSN
  • The understanding of interpretation of trends for Fashion & textile Design

On Monday the 28th Jan 2019 Delegation from , LUISS Business School, Italy & New Castle University, Australia , visited ASFT & ASFA for exploring opportunities for bilateral collaboration.

The Delegation comprised of the following members:
Prof Ms. Sara Gentili, Head of Strategy at LUISS Business School, Italy Prof Tony Travaglione, Pro Vice Chancellor & Executive Dean , New Castle University, Australia Mr Nimay Kalyani, Lecturer,& International Coordinator South Asia , New Castle University, Australia Dr Tony Drew, Assistant Dean International, New Castle University , Australia The delegation was accompanied by Mr Rajiv Mathur, Rank Global service Dr Manoj sharma & Ms Himani , International Affairs division , Amity University Uttar Pradesh

The delegates had been welcomed by Prof. (Dr.) Pradeep Joshi, Director General, Amity , Amity Directorate of Applied Arts/ Fine Arts/ Performing Arts & Visual Arts who introduced the Faculty , various institutes under the Faculty and various Programs being offered by the institutes .They visited the different lab facilities of ASFT & ASFA like Textile Testing Lab, Design Studio, Garment Manufacturing Lab, Painting Lab, 2-D, 3-D Animation Labs etc.

The discussions were primarily to explore areas of common interest like Faculty Exchange, Student Exchange, Summer Courses etc.

At the end of their visit, they were all praise for the faculty and students as well as the work done by them and the infrastructure of ASFT & ASFA.
