Mr. J.C. KALA, IFS (Retd.) - (Former DG and Secretary Forests, GoI) Advisor , AIGWES Forestry and Natural Resources Management

A practicing forester for over 35 years with a flair for natural resources conservation with human face and balancing it with development, he has headed and shaped the destiny of over 10000 forestry professionals, researchers, scientists and project management experts as Director general of forest cum secretary to Government of India for over two years.. He spearheaded, perhaps, the world’s largest peoples movement in Forests and Natural resource management. This participatory mode through variety of entry point activities was able to successfully link forest and other natural resources management with poverty alleviation and livelihood support; enhancement of agricultural productivity, literacy drive with no gender bias, and ultimately forest development became synonym to over all village development.

He has also served as chairman of National Environment Appellate Authority- a statutory body set up under the constitution to hear appeals of persons aggrieved by the environment clearances issued by the Central and the State Government.



Prof. B.K.P. Sinha, IFS (Retd.) Advisor, ASNRSD Forestry and Natural Resources Management

Prof. B.K.P. Sinha was an Indian Forest Services Officer of 1968 batch. He is a distinguished acknowledged professional in the field of forestry, natural resource management and sustainable development. He has a distinguished career culmination at Principal Chief Conserver/MD, UP Forest Cooperation. He has been Project Director, World Bank Forestry Project and as special secretary to the government of UP, one of the largest state of the country. He has lately been National Coordinator, Task Force on inter-linking of rivers. He has also served with several UNDP/FAO projects. He has many scientific publications to his credit. He is a well-known forester in India with Master’s Degree in Forestry (Economics) from University College of North Wales (U.K.), Bangor. Professional member of various national and international societies.



Dr. S.P. Singh, IFS (Retd.) Director, ASNRSD Forestry and Wildlife Management

Dr. Singh did his Ph.D. in Zoology (Insect Physiology), M. Phil. (Zoology- Entomology), Master degrees in 4 subjects viz. Zoology, Forestry, Sociology, Geoinformation (GIS & Remote Sensing). Dr. Singh joined Indian Forest Service in 1983 and served on several important assignments in the Forest Department of Assam. He also contributed in various wildlife conservation programmes at word heritage Sites – Manas and Kaziranga Tiger Reserve.

Dr. Singh also served in the Project Tiger (Now NTCA) in Government of India. He also served in Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Dehradun; Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE), Dehradun and Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy (IGNFA), Dehradun in different capacities. He has expertise in the field of Biodiversity Conservation, Eco-development, Forestry and Wildlife management, GIS &Remote Sensing, Climate Change & Carbon Assessment and Legal issues with forestry and wildlife sector.



Dr. N.P.S. Chauhan (Retd.)Director, AIWS Wildlife Studies

Dr. N.P.S Chauhan is a Ph.D. in Zoology (Ecology and reproductive biology of small wild mammals), University of Delhi, Delhi. He has attended several Training and Specialized Courses programs such as Wildlife Management in Wildlife Damage Control from US and Rome, Italy under the UNDP-FAO Fellowship program; Remote Sensing and GIS course from Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, Dehradun; Wildlife Management from New Zealand and Australia under the UNDP-FAO Fellowship program; Research and Development Management International Course from CSIRO, Australia; Master Class in Vertebrate Research and Management from CSIRO Wildlife and Ecology, Australia, and Primate research and population control techniques from University of California, Davis, USA.

He has more than 30 years of teaching and training professional experience. He taught Zoology in several colleges of Delhi University, Delhi. He served as lecturer of Wildlife Biology in orth-Eastern Hill University, Shillong. For 28 years, he served as scientist in the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun. He has more than 36 Years of research experience in the field of Biodiversity conservation, Wildlife Management, and Reproductive biology and Endocrinology of mammals, Fertility control in regulation of animal populations. He has 21 research projects (National and International funding). He provided about 155 Consultancies and Technical Advice to Forest department, Government and private organizations. He attended 75 National and International Conferences, Symposiums, Workshops and Seminars. He has published 71 research papers, reports and articles; 32 scientific reports and 6 book chapters and two technical manuals. He has supervised five M.Sc. dissertation, and seven Ph.D. students.

He is the member of IUCN Pig and Peccaries Specialist Group, Sloth Bear Specialist Group, Black Bear Specialist Group, Sun Bear Specialist Group, a committee on 'Control of stray animal menace and monkey menace, Animal welfare Division, MOEF . He has also served member of 'Emergency Relief Network, Wildlife Trust of India, New Delhi, and 'Human-Wildlife Conflict Collaboration'-Wildlife Society, Bethesda, US. He has also served as co-chair of Sloth Bear Expert team, IBA.



Dr. Upamanyu Hore, Assistant Professor Ecology; Wildlife Biology; Biodiversity Assessment

He holds Ph.D. in Wildlife Science and Masters in Environmental Science. He has 10 years of research experience in Wildlife Science and Conservation Biology. His areas of research interests are in wildlife survey, conservation planning, landscape ecology, community ecology, behavioral ecology, climate change and ecosystem processes. He has extensive experience in developing computer simulation models of populations, communities and ecosystem processes. He is currently teaching courses on wildlife management, biostatistics, research methodology, urban ecology and environmental design, natural resources management, and community development in rural areas. He is actively involved in research projects dealing conservation of endangered primate species in North East India. He has more than 10 publications in various national, international journals and in edited books.

Dr. Vartika Singh, Assistant Professor Geology, Hydrogeology, Artificial Intelligence

She holds Ph.D. degree in Hydrogeology and Remote Sensing, M.Phil. degree in Hydrogeology from Vikram University and Master degree in App. Geology from Kurukshtera University. She has GATE Qualified all India rank 47. She has 5 years of research experience with Defence Terrain Research Laboratory, DRDO, Delhi. Where she is associated in various important projects of Defence Research & Development Organization, DTRL lab like GIM, Thar and PISTA. Her specialization of research is in Hydrogeology, Remote Sensing, Environmental Geology & Artificial Intelligence. She has more than 10 publications in various national, international journals. She is in Editorial Board of several national and international journals. Her specialization is in the groundwater, hydrology, geology, artificial intelligence and remote sensing.



Dr. Lolita Pradhan, Assistant Professor Forestry and Natural Resources Management

She holds PhD degree in Botany from Dr. Hari Singh Gour University, M. Phil degree in Natural Resource Management from Indian Institute of Forest Management and Master’s degree in Forestry. She has 10 years of Research experience in the field of forestry and Natural Resource Management and has worked in different institutes like IIFM Bhopal, FRI Dehradun and IIPA New Delhi. She was associated in research projects of UNDP, CAMPA, IIED, NMPB, NMCG, NDMA, State Forest Departments, State Biodiversity Board etc. She has more than 10 publications in national, international journal and in edited books.



Ms. Maya Kumari, Assistant Professor Application of Remote sensing & Geoinformatics in Environment

She holds M. Tech degree in Remote Sensing and GIS technology from Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi and Master’s degree in Environmental Science from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. She has done several research projects related to geospatial mapping of land degradation in Ranchi with Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi. She has 5 years of research experience in Natural Resource Management. Her specialization is the theory and practice of remote sensing and geographic information systems.



Ms. Richa Sharma, Assistant Professor Natural resources Management, climate change

She holds Master of Science in Natural Resources Management from TERI University. She has been working on the Clean Development Mechanism while working with Sindicatum Sustainable Resources, India. She had also been involved in an UNDP-GEF project for evaluation of carbon reductions resulting from the various green initiatives implemented for the Commonwealth Games 2010.

Dr. H.M. Behl

Dr. H.M. Behl is a Ph. D. in Development Botany (Legumes) from University of Rajasthan, Jaipur. Dr. Behl is a full bright scholar and a very well known name in professional circle of biologist. He is Ex-Deputy Director, National Botanical Research Institute, Lucknow; Ex-Area Coordinator, Biomass Biology & Environment Sciences; Bioinformatics & Library; Planning & Monitoring; National Neem Network and Head, Biomass Research Centre, a Senior Fulbright Scholar, USA and a Commonwealth Fellow, U.K. He has published several scientific papers and author of many books of International repute. He has visited several countries on travel fellowships for Biodiversity survey. He is at present a distinguished scientist in preparation of herbal products with Biotech Park, Lucknow and Senior Advisor to many companies dealing with natural products both in India and abroad including D-1 Oils India Pvt. Ltd., Lucknow.




Dr. Gurmit Singh

Dr. Gurmit Singh is a very well known renewable energy scientist with several innovations and registered patents. He has been educated and lived in Germany for over 15 years. He is well known inventor, academician and marketer in the field of renewable energy.




Dr. Ajay Sharma

Dr. Ajay Sharma is a Ph. D. in plant sciences (Agroforestry systems for municipal effluent disposal). He was a Consultant United Nations Development Program to advise Ministry of Renewable Energy (Govt. of India) on implementation strategies for Biomass Power. He was with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Govt. of India and was consultant policy, Wind, Biogas, Chulha, Hydrogen cells, fuel cell, and New Technology groups of the Ministry. He is at present associated with a Corporate Group for raising and managing plantations. He is also Consultant on Plantations like M/s Surya Roshini Group, M/s Action Shoes, M/s Synergy group.




Dr. Minaketan Behera

Dr. Minaketan Behera is a Ph. D. in Forest and tribal livelihood issues from Govind Ballabh Pant Institute of Social Sciences, University of Allahabad, Allahabad and M. Phil. from University of Hyderabad. He has over 6 years of teaching and research experience. He has published several papers on economics of natural resources and is a well known name in resource economics.

Dr. A. Arunachalam

Dr. A. Arunachalam, a tropical ecologist graduated from the School of Ecology at North-Eastern Hill University, India. With 22 years of teaching, research, extension experiences Dr. A. Arunachalam has published over 150 research papers, 100 book articles, several bulletins, manuals, and synthesis volumes in the field of ecology, climate science, forestry, agriculture and natural resources management. Presently, he is serving as the Principal Scientist (Forestry) in Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi. Dr. Arunachalam is also a Visiting Professor at Forestry College & Research Institute (Mettupalayam) of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University and Faculty of Agriculture of Arunachal University of Studies, Namsai, Arunachal Pradesh; Adjunct Professor in College of Forestry, Navsari Agricultural University, Navsari (Gujarat); Honorary Professor in the Amity School of Natural Resources & Sustainable Development, Amity University, Noida; PG Faculty in Indian Agricultural Research Institute in the Centre for Environmental Science & Climate Resilient Agriculture.




Mr. Irshad Khan, IFS (Retd.)

Mr. Irshad Khan is an Indian Forest Service (IFS) Officer of great repute having Master degree in Forestry from University of Oxford. He is a distinguished. He has served as Chief of Party – Forest-PLUS Programme at Tetra Tech, USAID; Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Jammu and Kashmir; Chairman, Jammu and Kashmir Pollution Control Board; Senior Forestry Specialist at the World Bank, etc. He specializes as team leader, natural resource management, forestry, biodiversity, environmental impact assessment, climate change, wildlife, ecosystem services, environmental management, ecology, rural development, sustainability, landscape ecology, corporate social responsibility, sustainable development, forest carbon, etc.
