Amity School of Communication organizes “Media Fest 2020"

Amity School of Communication, Amity University organised Two Days Media Fest 2020 on 4th and 5th March 2020. The first day was dedicated to 'Editors Conclave 1.0' where Eight eminent Editors and Journalists from around the country graced the occasion. The students who aspire to excel in Journalism got an opportunity to interact with the Guests. The day was divided into three sessions where the eminent speakers from Indian Media Industry expressed their opinions on various topics like “Media Industry: The Changing Scenario, Media in 21st Century: Governance, Credibility, Accountability and Social Responsibility, and New Forms & Practices of Journalism: Digital Media & Citizen Journalism.”

It was one of the most awaited events organized for the first time in Amity University Madhya Pradesh which aimed to bring the awareness in emerging trends in Indian Media Industry.

The session was initiated by the inaugural speech by the Hon'ble Vice Chancellor of Amity University Madhya Pradesh Lt Gen V. K. Sharma, AVSM (Retd) where he discussed about the importance of Digital Communication and its ill effects. 

Each session of the conclave was informative and knowledgeable in its own sense but the main topic of the conclave revolved around The Fourth Pillar of Democracy in Media which had never hogged more limelight than it had in the last few years in India. In the scramble for TRPs, the line between news and entertainment has become blurred. The media is not just the Fourth Pillar but also the Backbone of the Democratic Society.

The second day of Media Fest i.e. 5thMarch 2020 was dedicated to Amity Film Festival 3.0, where Actor, Director, and Producer Shri. Yashpal Sharma, known for his work in films like Gangajala, Lagaan, Apaharan, Singh is King, Rowdy Rathore,etc. visited the campus and shared his experience in the interactive session with the students. The festival witnessed a variety of critically acclaimed, award winning films from all around the world panorama. 

The stage was also graced by another Eminent and renowned Bollywood Star Ms. Swara Bhaskar as well as a famous Standup Comedian Shri. Sanjay Rajoura. Students came out in large numbers just to get a glimpse of their favourite celebrities.

Shri. Yashpal Sharma charmed the audience with his epic dialogues and left the audience asking for more. He also shared his experience of working with the eminent Director, Mr. Rajkumar Hirani during a film festival in Nagpur and laid stress on the fact that a coherent story, a strict screenplay and a logical outcome altogether defines what a good cinema is, and feels it is something that the Bollywood must adopt. He shared his perception aboutweb series that shows violence should be banned as the audio visual medium is not just about serving nudity and brutality. He spoke about how he left doing negative roles after he found his child wandering around the house with a Toy Gun in his hand. Since that very day he realized how negativity presented in films can psychologically affect a child’s thought process. He also added that cinema is for entertainment and it must have a good social impact.

Renowned actress of Bollywood Ms. Swara Bhaskar who is Best known for her supporting work in mainstream productions and starring roles in independent films, visited the AUMP campus and mesmerized the atmosphere with her beauty. The sheer talent which defines who Ms. Swara really is, popularly known for landmark performances in movies like Raanjhana, Nil Battey Sannata, Anarkali of Aarah, Veere Di Wedding etc

The star during her interaction with the students described the film festival as significantin today's era and believed that today's era of cinema is losing its meaning. She feels Cinema needs to be understood, for which shethanked Amity School of Communication for organizing such a grand Film festival

When one of the students enquired about Ms. Swara's journey in Bollywood, she explicitly answered thatsuccess is something, which can only be achieved through hard work.She acceptsher journey in Bollywood has been difficult but due to thetremendouslove and support from the audience, for her acclaimed roles, is what kept her moving forward. She believes nothing can makea differenceand stop her from Dreaming Big.

The Media Fest concluded with a Stand-Up Comedy Show by Shri. Sanjay Rajoura- Stand Up Artist and Actor where he refreshed everyone’s mood with his whimsically amusing jokes, related to daily life anecdotes and humorous repartee.

The Two Days Fest was full of excitement as the Students met the legends in the industry and communicated with the Powerhouse of Immense Talent.
