With a view to strengthen and aggrandize bonds with foreign countries and to build healthy International relations, Amity Institute of Education (AIE) organized an International Guest lecture on – “Dynamics of Social Cohesion” wherein Dr. Chad Allen Rose, Associate Professor, University of Missouri shared his valuable inputs about the topic.

A group of pre-service teachers from the University of Missouri, USA also visited the campus and attended the session.

Dr. Alka Muddgal, Head, Amity Institute of Education apprised that Amity University had signed an MoU with the University of Missouri 3 years ago, and since then both the universities have built strong bond and relationship. The collaboration of both the universities have been an enriching experience for the students of both the universities. She expressed that “We, at Amity, believe that exchanging thoughts is of paramount importance as it help us know each other’s culture, traditions and countries better and paves the way for better learning experience for the students.

Dr. Chad Allen Rose, Associate Professor, University of Missouri addressed the problem of bullying which is prevalent in schools, community and the society. He apprised that bullying is not a school issue, rather it is a problem of the community which most people and children don’t talk about. He told that the objective of his organization is to create a bullying-free environment for all.

He informed the aspiring teachers that it is not enough if we only focus on the academic performance of the child, rather its more important to focus on the behavioral patterns of the child inside and outside the class. Only this could lead to his holistic development. He explained that punishing a child is in no case a suitable option if we are looking for his betterment. He suggested that reinforcement, and not punishment, is the way to make the child realize and correct his mistake. He apprised the reinforcement is a teaching behavior while punishments are detrimental in the longer run. He told that parents and guardians must regularly talk to their children and make them feel comfortable so that they could readily share their problems with them.

More than 100 Faculty members, Research scholars and Students from AIE and AIBAS were benefitted from the lecture.
