Amity Institute of Clinical Psychology, Amity University Gurugram organized an expert lecture on the Neurobiology of Substance Use Disorder, on 3rd January, 2024.

The lecture was conducted by Dr. Nirnay Sachdeva, MD Psychiatry, which covered a broad range of topics related to Substance Use Disorder, including the overview of ICD criteria for addiction, etiology of addiction, psychosocial issues in individuals with addiction, mental health stress, stages of addiction, pathways for addiction, coping models for positive mental health, and prevention models for promoting individual mental health. The session also highlighted Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET) as a coping strategy for dealing with addiction issues. Trainees gained insights through personal experiences, and the program emphasized early identification and prevention strategies for mental health issues in individuals with substance use disorder. Attendees were encouraged to seek treatment for mental illnesses associated with substance use disorders from psychiatrists and psychologists. A total of 30 students and 6 faculty members participated in the event.

In summary, the expert lecture provided valuable information on the neurobiology of Substance Use Disorder, offering insights into prevention strategies, coping models, and the role of practical and service-oriented aspects in the community. The program inspired awareness and prevention initiatives for psychosocial issues related to substance use disorders.
