Distinguished Hon’ble Chancellor Dr Aseem Chauhanji, Former Vice Chancellor of AUG Dr RC Sharma, worthy Dy. Vice Chancellor Gen Suhag, Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Padmakali Banerjee, Distinguished Scientist and Vice President of the prestigious Indian Academy of Science Dr Rajendra Prasad, Directors of Institutions, Heads of the Departments, Deans of the Faculty, Members of the Faculty, Officers of the University, Distinguished invitees, Dear freshers, proud parents, Ladies and Gentlemen;

May I take this opportunity to express my profound gratitude to the Hon’ble Chancellor Dr Aseem Chauhanji and Honourable Founder President of Amity University Hon’ble Dr Ashok K Chauhan Sahab for giving me the rare privilege and honour to be part of the great Mission Amity and to serve along with my worthy team of officers and enlightened faculty members this great University which in a short span of five years has already earned a high repute for the quality of education, industry relevant research and for innovations and patenting of ideas and technologies. Serving such a great university and to be the part of the winning team of Amity is a great privilege and I feel greatly inspired by the world class infrastructure and the vision of the founding fathers of this great university.

Ladies and Gentlemen, may I take this opportunity to congratulate on behalf of the entire AUG fraternity and on behalf of each one of you present on this momentous occasion our dynamic and innovative leader, our Hon’ble Chancellor Dr Aseem Chauhanji for being conferred upon the honour of the Honoris Causa Doctorate degree by the prestigious Northampton University of United Kingdom earlier this month. Sir we feel immensely honoured by the distinction conferred upon on by the Northampton University in recognising your innovative genius and the profound contributions you have made in the field of education, innovations and entrepreneurship in India and around the world.

We pray that you continue to rise on the pinnacle of glory by your good deeds and let many more such laurels come your way in future.

It is also a great privilege for me to address the freshers, the new age professionals, budding engineers, technologists, managers, budding law graduates, medical professionals, new age budding journalists, nursing professionals and aspirants seeking to enter the exciting world of science, liberal arts, architecture , urban planning and tomorrow’s innovators, techno-prenuers and creators of a new dawn of Human Excellence. May I congratulate you for your choice of AUG as the place of pursuit of world quality education, cutting edge research and innovations.

On this very important day of your journey on the path of enlightenment and glory, when you are embarking upon a new dawn of your professional life at this prestigious university, may I share my some of my thoughts with you. I have chosen to address you on this historic day of your life on the topic “Empower yourself with the Wings of Knowledge and Power of Innovation and Groom as World Class Professionals at Amity University Gurgaon”.

Young friends, I need not remind you that you will be the professionals of the new knowledge age. A new age, a new era and a new Century that is the Century of People, Century of Mind and a Century ushering a new hope to wipe out misery, hunger and unemployment from the face of the humanity and create a global society, global citizenship cutting across the barriers of nationality, barriers of race, religion, colour, caste and economic disparity to create everlasting peace and harmony between people of the world. A great promise awaits you at the dawn of the new age that has already begun to invigorate the minds of the people the world over on the exciting opportunities that lie ahead for people of mind like you, the budding professional to make a profound contribution to advance the frontiers of knowledge and accelerate the pace of growth and development, making it possible to create heaven on earth and happiness all around.

Young friends, we are in the brightest of the times in the march of human civilization on planet Mother Earth when mind boggling advances are taking place on scientific and technological fronts, creating capabilities in man, machines and systems that shall elevate man to levels of divinity, such that it shall allow you to proclaim with conviction “Ahom Brahmasmi” ie I am the Brahma, the ultimate reality, the divinity that manifests in this vast creation as was proclaimed by the great Vedic seers who discovered the meaning and purpose of life and secret of nature in the eternity of matter and energy. As such, you must be highly inspired to find a more profound meaning of your engagement in your pursuit of education at this prestigious University.

Young budding professionals, you have joined India’s one of the most prestigious university, the Amity University which is propelled by our Visionary Founder President Hon’ble Dr Ashok K Chauhan sahab and is being mentored by our illustrious Mentor, a dynamic and Innovative leader the Hon’ble Chancellor of Amity University Gurgaon, Dr Aseem Chauhan ji. You must therefore be highly excited and should take pride in being part of the Amity Family, a part of the “Mission Amity”and the part of the “Amity Junoon” to empower India and the Nations of the world with quality education, research and innovations pursued with a global mindset deep rooted in India’s Vedic Value system of Aatmiyata - Empathy, Ritam - Righteousness, Satyam - Truthfulness, Shanti- Peace, Ahimsa - Non-violence, Manavta - Dignity of man and Vishwamitra - Protection and Preservation of Nature and

Let you therefore during your stay at this prestigious university dedicate yourself to the cause of studies and research with utmost sincerity and nurture in you a value system that shall make you the noblest citizens of the global world, having capabilities to serve the society and the vast humanity. Let your innovative and creative potential find its fullest of expression during your studies at AUG and let you meet and greet the challenges of 21st Century and be the pace setters for growth and development that assures prosperity and happiness together, protects the interest of man and nature and assures sustainability and divine bliss during otherwise perishable existence.

Let me also say that I am truly delighted to be here at the Amity University Gurgaon as it is a great privilege to work for the Mission Amity. I may add that we in the management and my members of faculty shall work with unconditional commitment and firm resolve to make Amity Gurgaon as one of the very best Universities of the Amity Group that the whole world shall be proud of. Our dream would be to make Amity Gurgaon a “New age University”, as the most sought after university for higher education and research, and we shall ensure that we achieve this goal with certainty in the coming years. Our Honourable Chancellor has assured me of his full support and patronage to make us all succeed in this great mission.

During the last five years of its functioning AUG has focussed its attention on quality of infrastructure, Quality of teaching learning environment, Quality of research of high relevance to our industries and society at large, on strong industry interface, on proving a global connect to our students and above all on grooming our students as the professionals of the knowledge age equipped with the knowledge and skill sets embedded with a value system that make our students a class apart. You the young budding professionals shall have the great advantage of the goodwill nurtured by Amity University over the years and shall be in a position of advantage now that Amity is a global brand for world quality education and research.

I extend a warm welcome to you and to your proud parents to this prestigious university which is your university from today and shall be your identity during your studies and shall remain as your identity even after graduation, till your last breath on this planet Mother Earth and thereafter as well as the coming generations shall remember you being the alumni of the great Amity group of universities. You must therefore have a great sense of attachment to the university as you are now part of this great family. You will have all the opportunity to add to the pride and glory of Amity, your alma-mater and bring pride to your parents and Motherland by your hard work, good deeds during your studies, by surpassing the benchmarks of success in education, research, innovations, new product developments, patenting, technology transfer and in giving rise to start ups even while you are at studies at the university.

Your seniors at AUG have done a marvellous job by designing and developing a “Solar Hybrid Car”, a “Solar Hybrid Vehicle”, an “All Terrain Vehicle”, a “quad-copter “equipped with surveillance camera and sensors, a “Self Balancing Robot”, Amion, a “Sagway”, Amiway, a “Vertical Take off and Vertical Landing Autonomous Aeroplane” propelled by Gyroscopically mounted twin propellers, Amiron-2015, a “3D Printing Machine” and a Humanoid capable of 2.5 lacs programmable applications and a whole lot of innovative product designs displayed in our “AUG Innovation galleries” in Academic Block- C and Academic Block- B.

You will thus have a great advantage of building Innovation Excellence around your interest areas as you already have the support system and vibrancy of research and innovations in this prestigious university. Being part of such a prestigious institution which provides an environment of research and innovations should be a matter of great privilege for you and a matter of great pride for your parents.

As you embark upon taking your deep plunge into the realms of science and capture the thrill and excitement of engineering you must not forget that the very purpose of acquiring a degree of a university is not just the career per say but to create in you an “untiring quest for excellence”, an “unmatched relentless curiosity” for research and innovations, an “unconditional commitment to serve the vast humanity” and then not to stop there but , to excel to realise the immense creative and innovative potential in you. Let you also realise that the profession of “Engineering, Medical Sciences, Management, Nursing, Law, Bio-scientist, Bio-technologist or Nano-scientist or Nano-Technologist is a profession of great privilege”, a great “privilege to serve and a privilege to excel”. This privilege you shall have on graduation from this prestigious institution. During your stay at this prestigious university you should work with relentless curiosity to acquire capabilities that shall enable you to be the world class professionals of the new knowledge age. The pursuit of such a privilege requires an interdisciplinary environment and a trans departmental approach to build capabilities and expertise that shall solve the problems such as energy security, water security, environmental sustainability, zero defect and zero waste manufacturing , assuring good health for all and above all creating responsible citizenship the hall mark of educated individuals relentlessly engaged in service of man and nature.

Let you take guidance from the Bhagwat Gita that proclaims that “Shraddhawan Labhte Jnanam, Tatparah Sanyae Indriyas”, that is to acquire knowledge you must have Shraddha, faithful allegiance to the source of knowledge, Tatparah, the intense desire to acquire knowledge and above all Sanyam on your Indriyas that you remain focussed on your studies and on your goals of life and lead a life of self control and self discipline.

Let you also make no mistake that all the great people of the world have submitted to the requirement of Aatma-sanyam, self control, self regulation to acquire knowledge and capabilities that made them rise to the pinnacle of glory and bring such a high honour to their Motherland and pride to

the humanity at large. Lord Krishna in the Bhagwat Gita has ordained that “Aatmasanyam yogagno

juveyate Jnan deeptam” meaning there by that the “lamp of knowledge is lit by the fire of self control

and self regulation”. Let Self control, self restrain from all wrongs and evils that distract a person from

the righteous path must be your life philosophy to exhibit the best of discipline and decorum in the

university campus and also outside so that you are looked upon by the society with high respect and

honour.

You must therefore have a great “feeling of unmatched excitement and enthusiasm” upon

being a part of this prestigious university. I therefore call upon you to commit yourselves to

empowering yourself with the “Wings of Knowledge and Power of Innovation” at AUG by acquiring

world class education, by engaging yourselves in cutting edge research and industry and society

relevant innovations during your stay at this prestigious university and utilise the opportunity

unparalleled at AUG to build great capabilities in you to meet and greet the challenges of 21st Century.

I would also like to remind you that in each one of you there exists a trinity, the trinity of your

intellect, intuition and imagination and thus you should awaken your trinity to prepare yourself to

acquire world class education and engage in creative research and innovations at AUG. Let you get the

benefit of being in the company of the talented and inspired faculty and let you and your mentors

together march on the path of enlightenment, acquire both knowledge as well as skills creating

capabilities to greet the challenges of the new Knowledge Age with a value system tuned to protecting

the interest of man and Mother Nature.

Young friends, we are at a highly opportune time when India’s rich intellectual and scholastic

traditions are yielding high dividends in the new knowledge age, an age in which the intellectual

capabilities of people , their attitude and their behaviour matters more than any other resource. You

must therefore pay your sincere attention to your studies, your conduct and your behaviour as

ultimately your capabilities and your attitude shall decide your employability and your engagement

into the profession of your interest and vocation. Let you cultivate a positive attitude, develop a

pleasant personality in you, exhibit a great sensitivity to the society, respect for laws and

responsible citizenship.

India’s march to the horizons of Global Knowledge Power began with India’s resolve for self

reliance in strategic defence, nuclear power, communications, and agriculture and thereafter in

information and communication technologies.

Indian mind, capable of taking flights of imaginations and translating dreams and visions into realty today, is the propulsive force behind India’s rapid track transformation into the World’s strongest Global Knowledge Power. India’s rich scientific and technological power backed by a sound base of S&T manpower produced by its universities and technological institutions is making India proud and the wheels of economic growth are moving fast to catch up with the economic growth of China. The young budding professionals present here today have therefore to understand the value and worth of self discipline, professional morality and work ethics and above all the respect for life and dignity of labour. Utmost care and concern to preserve the natural environment is expected to be complied by one and all in our human endeavours to make India a destination for world in line with the national missions “Skilling and Enterprising India”, “Digital India”, “Clean and Pollution free India” to make the astounding success of the mission “Make in India”.

Make no mistake that in the new Knowledge Age, the competence and calibre of people will have a great meaning only if they are cultured and motivated to give their best to the organizations they belong to and are unconditionally committed to serve the society and Mother Nature. We need people in this country and for that reason around the globe who are deeply committed to integrating capabilities with values to create the India of our dream where fair prosperity and happiness in plenty will be visible in our own country and will be an inspiration for the fellow citizens of the globalized world.

The founding father of free and independent India Mahatma Gandhi ji and our freedom fighters fought for creation of such an India of their dream. Our martyrs sacrificed their lives to create

such a magnificent India “Where mind is free and head is held high” as our great Guru Rabindra Nath Tagoreji has envisioned a new dawn for a free and independent India.

Our first prime minister Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru, himself a great visionary laid a solid foundation for the growth of India’s Science and Technology power by establishing a network of world class science and engineering institutions, the IITs, the chain of world class research laboratories under CSIR and DRDO, Indian Space Research Organisation, ISRO, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, BARC, and highly agile and ever vibrant PSUs the Navaratnas of India’s industrial power.

The mission of Pt Nehru was further strengthened by Shri Lal Bhadur Shastri ji who envisioned and successfully launched India’s Green revolution. This was followed by a focused attention to strategic defence by the successive Prime Ministers which enabled India to be a member of the nuclear club after the first nuclear explosion at Pokhran. The dream of Vikram Sarabhai of making India a prestigious member of the Space Club got realized recently with India’s successful Chandrayan, the Mission Moon that discovered water particles on moon and there after the successful launch of the Mangalayan, Mission Mars and that to with world class precision at a highly reduced cost. A lot more is happening in great many sectors of human endeavours giving a firm conviction to the world community of a bright future for India and its economy.

The rhythms and vibrations of a technologically strong India of 21st century were perceived with clarity and with a firm resolve in the early 80s when it was realized that “Connectivity, Communication and Capabilities will be the 3 Cs, the building blocks of India’s march to the horizons of a Global Knowledge Superpower in the 3rd millennium”.

The vision of the Bharat Ratna Dr Abdul Kalam, a distinguished scientist and technologist for excellence, who later became India’s most popular scientist president, ignited Indian minds to develop India into a Global Power capable of wiping out poverty, hunger and unemployment and cause the much needed Resurgence of India to the horizons of a Global Knowledge Superpower.

Now that we have a highly dynamic Prime Minister in Shri Narendra Modiji to lead our country to unmatched glory and a Central and State Government so deeply committed to world class Quality, Industrial Relevance and Excellence, India is on the threshold of a major quantum leap forward in shaping India as the world’s strongest Knowledge Superpower. The clarion call from the precinct of the Red Fort by the Honourable Prime Minister Modiji in his Independence Day address to the Nation last year, wherein he has called upon every Indian to join in the “Clean India” campaign, create enabling environment for “ Make in India”, align our manufacturing to “Zero Defect and Zero Waste” manufacturing, focus on sustainability, harness new and renewable energy resources to have energy in plenty and revitalise our management and governance systems to be easy and effective must be our agenda at AUG so that we in this prestigious university become “partners in progress” in implementing this vital national agenda. It puts a great responsibility on all of us including you the freshers as with you on board we can usher a new era of quality, productivity and sustainability on your innovative and creative abilities. We are committed to usher such an exciting academic and research environment in our university.

Synergy between Education and Research, Synergistic Partnership between Institutions and Industry, using technology to enhance effectiveness of education delivery and its reach to millions, including those who are on the worktable or shop floors in the industry are among the action points

which we in our Research and Innovation driven Amity University shall take up for further strengthening our contribution to the national mission to make India the destination for World Quality Knowledge and Research for the aspiring minds from around the world.

India today stands as world’s third largest economic power, its economy growing at an impressive pace, Indian Entrepreneurs emerging as global entrepreneurs, Indians figuring increasingly in the list of the richest persons in the world, India’s knowledge power making India as a preferred destination for out sourcing knowledge services to India, India is fast emerging as a destination for world class R&D Centres and is coming up as a major Innovation hub. Young friends, these are the signs of a brighter tomorrow for India and its people. You must, therefore, be highly excited to make your own contributions to the growth and development of India of your dream.

All the members of the faculty and the parents of the newly admitted students present in this august auditorium, must realize that it is our responsibility to ensure that the young budding professionals understand their responsibility to work consciously for creation of India of our dream, a developed and prosperous India, India inhabited by peace loving people, capable people, cultured people, people capable of providing to the world a new world order wherein fair prosperity and peace in plenty is nurtured by the people the world over.

We, belonging to the community of professionals from disciplines of engineering, technology, architecture and planning, medical sciences, management, nursing, legal, liberal arts, media and journalism, fashion technology, bio-nano and info sciences and applied sciences fraternity, owe it to our people to solve and solve without loss of time the pressing problem of energy shortage, mounting problem of environmental degradation, inefficiency and indifference in our administrative and governance set up, near chaotic traffic situation in our metros and capital cities, info- security of our networks, internal security and safety of our people and above all to provide S&T driven solutions to make India a heaven on planet Mother Earth.

It is not an easy task, but not an impossible one either. You as highly inspired minds should resolve today to consciously work for achieving technology breakthroughs to empower our country with the “power of science and the might of technology” needed to transform India into a Global Knowledge and Technology Superpower.

At Amity University Gurgaon, we are seriously engaged in preparing a cadre of professionals who will meet and greet the challenges of the new Knowledge Age and strengthen our resolve of shaping India into a Global Knowledge and Technology Superpower.

With the Troika of Education, Research and Innovation, our vision of shaping Amity University as a world class research and innovation driven university and a Global Knowledge Enterprise, a campus gravitating with an inspired environment for research and innovations we shall empower our students and faculty with the “Wings of Knowledge and Power of Innovations” which in turn shall help India march on the pathways of a Knowledge Society and enable the mankind to march from IT to KT (Knowledge Technologies) and thereafter to WT (Wisdom Technologies).

Once that becomes a reality we shall be able to perform what look as fiction as “Transmitting Electricity Without Wire”, “Running a car or even a train with the Divine Energy” and that to without the traction lines as of today, making “Molecular Manufacturing” a reality for tomorrow’s “zero defect and zero waste manufacturing” systems and so on, sky is the limit of what can be achieved with the mind boggling advancement of science and the ever advancing frontiers of technologies. Likewise the advancement in the areas of info-nano and bio technology shall provide unprecedented capabilities to create energy in abundance, cause the transaction of “business at the speed of thought” as “mind to mind connectivity” would then be a reality. The dream of good health for all and enhanced immunity to deadly diseases and devastating viruses shall than be a reality.

At Amity we have a tradition to celebrate eminence of the luminaries. I am delighted to mention that Dr Niti Parashar the eminent Physicist at Purdue, who served on the winning team of the discovery of God Particle visited Amity University Gurgaon this year and inspired the minds of faculty and students on the immense possibilities opened by this epoch making discovery. Likewise Eminent Global Indians such as Dr SL Kothari Dy. Dean of MIT Sloan School of Management, Dr Sankaran Sundaresan of Princeton University, Dr Bhagwan Chowdhry of UCLA Anderson School of Management and Dr Debvrata Banerje Associate Dean of Global Initiatives at Rutgers University USA, Dr Krishen Kumar, Lead Technologist at NASA Johnson Space Research Centre Houston, Dr Ranjit Sinha Former MD of Ferrite Ltd(UK) were invited by AUG to address the faculty and inspired minds of students during the rear 2014-15.

Further the pride of Amity and the Scroll of Honour of AUG was further enriched by the Bhrat Ratna Dr CNR Rao, the eminent Scientist, Nobel Laureate Shri Kailash Satyarthi and Padma Bibhushan Dr Madhavan Nair, Former Chairman ISRO accepting the Honoris Causa Doctorate degrees at the AUG Convocation in February 2015 in the august presence of our Hon’ble Founder President Dr Ashok K Chauhan.

I also feel delighted to add that the eminent NASA Scientist and Lead Technologist Dr Krishen Kumar, Dr Fred P Bemak Professor of Education and Human development, George Masaon University, Virginia,USA, Dr Stephen C Rand, Professor at University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA and Ms Paroma Roy Chowdhury, Country Head Corporate Communications and Public affairs, Goole India have also been honoured with Visiting Professorship at AUG. I am also happy to mention that distinguished scientists and technologists such as Dr Rajendra Prasad, Rector, distinguished Professor and Dean of Life Sciences at JNU and Senior Vice President of the prestigious Indian National Science Academy INSA have joined us at AUG as Director of Amity Institute of Biotechnology and Director of Amity Institute of Integrative Science and Health. We are also happy to mention that eminent Bioinformatics Professor Dr Burra Prasad and Eminent Nano Scientist Dr Brijesh Kumar from National University of

Singapore have joined AUG as Professors and Heads of Centres of Advanced Research and Innovations in Structural Drug Design and Drug Discovery and Nano Science and Technology. We have also roped in a young yet highly innovative mind of Shri Manoj Choudhry as the Head of Centre for Advanced Research and Innovations in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence. We have also highly innovative minds of faculty in our Amity School of Business, Behavioural Sciences, Fine Arts, Fashion Design, Architecture and planning , Linguistics, Law, Nursing, Nutrition and Medical sciences. You shall have great opportunities of participating in the vibrant environment of research and innovations in these and other exciting areas of your interest at AUG.

Young budding professionals of the new Knowledge age, the summit of life with divine is almost round the corner. But you must make yourself capable of turning this corner so that it becomes a reality in our own lifetime and then it should enable us to proclaim, as our Vedic seers have done almost five thousand years ago, “Ahom Brahamashmi” i.e.“I am Eternal”, I am ageless and that I have the capability to visualize and realize the presence of the divinity within us and the divinity all around.

You therefore, the budding professionals have to prepare yourself to greet this new knowledge age which awaits you where the power of mind, the power of connectivity and the power of networked systems shall make you scale what has so far been labelled as impossible, the supra-natural.

The point I am driving is that you must go beyond the curriculum and keep your eyes focussed on whole lot of new developments that are taking place around the world in the field of science and engineering.

You will have a role in strengthening our resolve and to be the part of the winning team of our Amity University. Let nobility in you glow in your eminence and let you celebrate your entry into a highly exciting and thrilling horizon of education and research in Applied Sciences, Medical Sciences, Management, Engineering and Technology and whole lot of other exciting disciplines we offer at AUG.

Let me as the Vice Chancellor of this prestigious university not hesitate to give you a set of advices as it is your first day at our university.

? My first and most important advice is that pay your greatest attention to studies and academic activities. As Knowledge is the necessary condition to succeed and excel in the Knowledge driven work environment. But remember that knowledge is not the sufficient condition to achieve the goals and objectives of life. You need to develop yourself as a highly responsible person caring for yourself and the society and lead a dignified human life.

• My second advice to you is to submit to strict self discipline and be a person having a high Personality Quotient, PQ comprising of high Intelligent Quotient IQ, high Emotional Quotient EQ and a high Spiritual Quotient SQ. You will have plenty of opportunity to develop yourselves here at AUH.

• My third advice to you is to be tech-savvy and take full advantage of the excellent knowledge warehouse which exists on net. Yet protect yourselves from the virus of misguide, misbehaviour and misconduct which modern ICT technologies often attract youngsters to. Let you be an ethical leader and a person of high integrity.

• My fourth advice to you is that always work to protect the fair name of AUG as it will be your identity throughout your life. You would be able to do so by your good deeds and will undoubtedly fail to do so if you engage in misdeeds and misconduct. I advise you to be ultra vigilant and protect your own and your Alma matter’s interest.

• My fifth and the last advice to you is that you must fight the menace of ragging and help us to ensure that the AUG campus emerges as a university having Zero Tolerance in Ragging. Your support and cooperation of your seniors is vital to help achieve a Ragging Free AUH Campus.

This is my advice and this is my counsel to you on your first day of studies as the Vice Chancellor of this prestigious university. I am sure, you are here for the right cause i.e. to empower you the Wings of Knowledge and Power of Innovations and that is perhaps the reason you have chosen AUG to be your abode for education and research on top of other reputed institutions.

Our Dean of Students Welfare Maj Gen Bal and his Proctorial team of highly devoted officers and members of faculty shall always be ready to support you so that you have the best of your stay in our university and achieve your educational and research goals with standards

of quality acceptable globally. I expect you to submit to the code of discipline and maintain decorum as expected from professional students of a prestigious university.

Let me finish by reminding you what our Vedic seers have said about pursuit of learning ie “Vidhya Dadati Vinayam, Vinayam dadati patratam” , “Yoga karmeshu koshlam” and “Yah Vidhya sa Vimuchyate”. Holy Quran also proclaims “Iqra Bisme Rabbika” which means devote to studies, likewise the Holy Bible also invites us to submit to the cultivation of Knowledge and wisdom “for wisdom will come into your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul; discretion will watch over you, understanding will guard you”. Let these words of wisdom be your guiding philosophy at Amity and beyond.

Brief Biographical Sketch of Prof PB Sharma:

Born in April 1948 at Vidisha in Madhya Pradesh, Professor Pritam B. Sharma grduated in Mechanical Engineering from Samrat Ashok Technological Institute with a GOLD MEDAL of Faculty of Technology of Vikram University in 1969. He was sent by Govt. of India as a National Scholar for higher studies abroad and he obtained his Post Graduate Degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Birmingham (UK) in 1974 and received the Post Graduate Prize for being the topper of the Engineering Faculty of University of Birmingham. He later received his Doctorate Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Birmingham (UK) in 1978.

Prof. Sharma is a man of vision, firm commitment and resolve to nurture academic and professional excellence in originations and Institutions to which he has associated himself during his 45 years long professional career. He brings with him a combine of the wisdom of a Professor of Mechanical Engineering of the prestigious IIT Delhi, an institution builder and former Director of DCE and Founder Vice Chancellor of DTU. Prof. Sharma is an IT savvy technical education administrator having knowledge and vision of building world class institutions. Professor Sharma is currently the Vice-Chancellor of the prestigious Amity University Gurgaon.

Professor Sharma has guided 17 Ph.D. scholars and has undertaken a number of major R&D Projects sponsored by the Government and private agencies. He offered consultancy to a number of reputed industries and organizations which include GTRE Bangalore and world renowned Rolls Royce of UK. His work on optimization of Thermal power plants and Contra Rotation for Surge and Stall free aero-compressors is highly valued internationally.

Prof. Sharma has demonstrated his skills of a speed leader capable of providing breakthroughs on the strength of his immense wisdom and capabilities of innovativeness and team excellence.

Prof. Sharma has mentored innovative teams at DCE-DTU that developed Super Mileage Vehicle, India’s First Hybrid Car, India’s First Solar Car, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle that won the Most Innovative Design Award in international competition in USA, Bio-diesel reactors for which DTU is renowned today internationally and continues to accelerate the pace of innovations at Amity University Gurgaon. He Continues to mentor Innovations at Amity University Gurgaon.

Prof. Sharma has published over 224 research papers. His contributions to the policy planning in technical and higher education are too well recognized in the country. Prof. Sharma has been the Chairman of Central Counselling Board of MHRD, and has been the President of Engineering Science Division of Indian Science Congress and also the Chairman of Sectorial committee of National Board of

Accreditation. Prof. Sharma has been on the Board of Governors of a number of prestigious institutions which include IIT Kanpur and Thapar Institute of Technology Patiala. Prof. Sharma was also the Visitor’s Nominee for University of Hyderabad and also for Indian Institute of Mines, Dhanbad. Prof. Sharma has also been an expert member of the apex policy planning body in education in the country, namely, Central Advisory Board of Education, CABE of MHRD, Govt. of India.

Professor Sharma has widely travelled abroad and has interacted with Universities and Industries, in the developed as well as in the developing countries. He is a Fellow of World Academy of Productivity Sciences, Fellow of Institution of Engineers, a Fellow of the Aeronautical Society of India and an elected Fellow of Indian Society of Technical Education. Prof Sharma has also been awarded the Scroll of Honour and the Distinguished Engineer Award in 2008 from Institution of Engineers (India).

In July 2013 Professor Sharma has been honoured by the University of Birmingham (UK) with the honorary degree of Doctor of Engineering (Honoris causa) in recognition of his distinguished contributions to higher technical education in India.

Professor Sharma is a reputed technical educator and a world class researcher and innovator who brings with him a combine of a first rate academician and an active technologist having a strong interface with the industry. He is a man of vision, firm commitment and resolve to foster academic and professional excellence and innovations in higher technical education.
