Guest Lecture on “Re-conceptualizing global mental health with a focus on cultural and contextual foundations”

Office of International affairs organised guest lecture on Re-conceptualizing global mental health with a focus on cultural and contextual foundations by Dr. Vaishali Raval, Professor, Associate Chair of the Department of Psychology, Miami University- Oxford Ohio USA on 4th August 2022.

The main objective of the event was to provide an opportunity to faculties & students to learn the various aspects of mental health with respect to the dimensions of cultural diversity and different contexts related to age, environment and regions.

Dr. Vaishali Raval talked about Global Mental Health with respect to the following 3 aspects Cultural foundations of parenting and emotion processes, culturally informed approaches to global mental health, marginalization, and mental health

Further it was emphasized that the search for a better understanding of the causes of mental disorders and affordable and effective treatments is of importance to improving the lives of individuals living with these disorders in all countries. Hence, she concluded that in every country there is a need to develop and implement low- cost, sustainable, and scalable interventions. Finally, she summed up talking about Contextual & cultural differences due to different regions and different countries effects a lot on various issues of mental health and the ways to treat them.
