Guest Lecture on “Majoritarianism with binary voting, division, and at worst, war; or pluralism preferential decision making and peace” was delivered by the distinguished social activist Mr. Peter Emerson on 17th January 2025 by Office of International Affairs (OIA). The objective was to promote awareness of pluralistic governance, encourage critical discussions on democratic processes, and align with broader sustainability goals by fostering peaceful and inclusive decision-making mechanisms.

The International Expert Talk Series (IETS) aimed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the impact of majoritarianism and binary voting on societal divisions and conflicts. Inspired by the extensive experience of Mr. Peter Emerson as a social and political activist, the event sought to introduce students to the concept of Preferential Decision-Making as an alternative to traditional voting systems.

The expert talk successfully broadened participants' perspectives on governance and decision-making methodologies. Mr. Emerson’s insightful lecture traced the historical evolution of voting systems, highlighting the limitations of binary voting and the benefits of preferential decision-making in fostering consensus and reducing societal divisions.
