The International Expert Talk Series

The International Expert Talk Series, an initiative of the Office of International Affairs, AUH, was organised on 10th November 2025, with the aim of engaging the university community in meaningful dialogue on pressing global legal and policy issues by bridging academic theory with real-world practice.

The primary aim of this session was to provide participants with a foundational understanding of social and economic rights law and its significance within the broader international human rights framework. By inviting eminent international scholars, the series seeks to expose students and faculty to diverse global perspectives, encourage critical thinking, and promote applied learning in the field of international law and policy.

The session delivered by Dr. Rebecca Munro, Associate Professor at the University of Warwick School of Law, aimed to enhance awareness of the legal foundations, scope, and contemporary relevance of social and economic rights. The talk sought to deepen participants’ understanding of the challenges and barriers associated with the realization of these rights and to inspire informed, critical engagement with issues of human dignity, equality, and inclusive development.

Dr. Rebecca Munro’s scholarly and practice-oriented approach enriched the session, as she drew upon her expertise in social and economic rights, social welfare law, international human rights law, and socio-legal research. Her discussion on legal mobilization, social movements, and the practical challenges in enforcing social and economic rights provided participants with a nuanced and critical perspective on rights realization.
