 (i)             Introduction:

The Amity School of Architecture & Planning (ASAP) and the Department of Civil Engineering, Amity School of Engineering & Technology (ASET), Gwalior, jointly organized a National Seminar on “Designing Smart City for a Sustainable Future – Exploring the Dimension of Safety and Security” on 26th August 2025 at AUMP, Gwalior.
This event was graced by Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of AUMP, Prof. (Dr.) R.S Tomar. The Chief Guest for this event was Prof. (Dr.) Rajiv Kansal, former Professor & Head of Civil Engineering and Dean Student Welfare at MITS, Gwalior.
The other guests of Honour for this event were –
§ Mr. Krishna Kant Kushwah, Joint Director Town and Country Planning Gwalior,
§ Ar. Rebecca Jadon, Senior Architect and Planner, and
§ Ar. Ravinder Bagga, Chairman from IIA Gwalior Centre.
 
(ii)            Aims/Objective(s) of the Event:
This National Seminar, titled “Designing Smart City for a Sustainable Future – Exploring the Dimension of Safety and Security” united students, faculty, and professionals to discuss integrating technology in architecture, urban planning and civil engineering for smart city development in India. This seminar raised awareness on innovative technologies, advanced urban planning, and sustainable design for safer, efficient, and eco-friendly cities.
The key themes for this national seminar included - safety, security, climate resilience, and resource management, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and research. Through this event, the speakers and the participants shared emerging trends, case studies, and actionable strategies to build sustainable and inclusive smart cities for the future.
 
(iii) No of Faculty Participants: 10 Faculty Members from ASAP and ASET were a part of the organising team for this event. Other faculty members from AUMP were a part of the audience in the Inaugural Session.
(iv) No of Student Participants: 55 Students from Amity School of Architecture and Planning (ASAP) and 15 students Civil Engineering Department, Amity School of Engineering and Technology (ASET) attended the National Seminar. A handful of students from AUMP (ASET CSE) were also a part of the audience in the Inaugural Session.
(v) Highlights of the Event/Activity:
The event “Designing Smart City for a Sustainable Future – Exploring the Dimensions of Safety and Security” successfully brought together experts, academicians, professionals, and students to deliberate on the integration of technology and sustainable practices in urban development. The inaugural session set the tone with insightful addresses by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, eminent speakers, and distinguished guests, highlighting the need for innovation in architecture and civil engineering. Keynote lectures and expert talks explored smart water distribution, inclusive city planning, and gender-sensitive urban design.
The post-lunch session featured global perspectives from speakers associated with UNOPS and academic institutions. The event concluded with a valedictory session and prize distribution, leaving participants enriched with knowledge and inspired to contribute toward safer, eco-friendly, and inclusive smart cities.
(vi) Outcome(s):
-       Enhanced Awareness: Participants gained insights into the role of technology in creating sustainable and secure smart cities.
-       Knowledge Exchange: Experts and academicians shared best practices on smart water management, urban safety, and inclusive design principles.
