Amity Institute of Pharmacy (AIP) Amity University Madhya Pradesh, Gwalior organized a one day National Seminar on “Emerging Opportunities in Pharmacovigilance for Healthcare Professionals”on 22ndJanuary 2020. The Inaugural Session of the Seminar was chaired by Lt. Gen. V.K. Sharma, AVSM (Retd), Vice Chancellor, Amity University Madhya Pradesh, Gwalior. The event was also graced by the presence of Chief guest of inaugural session Dr. G. N. Singh, (Ex Director Indian Pharmacopoeial Commission(Director, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Dr. H. S. Gour University, Sagar, M.P.), Ghaziabad & Ex Drug Controller of India). Dr. S. K. Jain was the honorable Chief Guest of the Valedictory Session.
The Seminar started with lamp lighting ceremony and worship of goddess of wisdom Maa Saraswati. The opening remarks were given by Hon’ble VC Lt Gen VK Sharma AVSM (Retd). Hon’ble VC in his speech, emphasized the importance of Pharmacovigilance and adverse drug reactions in the present era.
Hon’ble VC also spoke of how Pharmacovigilance professionals have to monitor, assess, detect and prevent adverse effects of medicines. Pharmacovigilance provides understanding and prevention of adverse effects, drug related allergies and other new signals for therapeutics. Hon’ble VC pointed out that Pharmacovigilance enhances patient care and patient safety in relation to the use of medicines; and to support public health programmes by providing reliable and balanced information for the effective assessment of the risk-benefit profile of medicines. Hon’ble VC remarked that in recent times there have been several untoward incidents of drug safety reported in the mass media resulting in misinformation to public and sometimes causing a panic like situation. Hence, Pharmacovigilance is the only way to establish and ensure safety of drug molecules of the drug.
In the first technical session of the Seminar, Dr. R.K. Prasad delivered a keynote lecture on “Pharmaceutical Research & Development and the Role of Computers in Research”. The second keynote speaker, Dr. Rohit Singhal delivered a talk on “History, General Overview of Pharmacovigilance”. The Seminar proceedings were released by Hon’ble VC, Chief guests, Keynote speakers, esteemed faculty members and guests from various Institutions.
In the second technical session of the Seminar, Dr. Rohit Singhal organized a workshop on Pharmacovigilance. He explained how to fill adverse drug reaction form on the basis of various case studies.
In total more than 25 posters and about 12 oral presentations were presented in the Seminar. Dr. Mukul Telang, Professor, School of Studies in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Jiwaji University, Dr. S. C. Mehta Ex Professor GR Medical College Gwalior, Dr. Manish Wanjari, Senior Scientist, AYUSH Gwalior, and Dr. Sadhana Shrivastava, Senior Scientist, AYUSH Gwalior, evaluated the oral and poster sessions, respectively. The Chief guest Dr. S. K. Jain, Pro Vice Chancellor, Dy. Pro Vice Chancellor, session experts awarded prizes to the winners of poster and oral presentations. The Seminar was declared closed with the closing remarks of Pro Vice Chancellor, Amity University, Gwalior and concluding remarks of Prof. (Dr.) Ajay Sharma, Organizing Secretary. At the end of the Seminar, Dr. Jovita Kanojia (Joint Secretary) delivered the vote of thanks.
