Lightening of the lamp


(World Suicide Prevention Day)

 

Amity Institute of Behavioural and Allied Sciences (AIBAS), Lucknow campus in collaboration with Childline and Mind Joggers Club, organized an event entitled “All Is Well” on International Suicide Prevention day on 10th September, 2015. The chief guest of the function was Ms. Sutapa Sanyal, D.G.P. Human Rights Commission and Uttar Pradesh Police Mahila Samman Prakoshtha and the Guest of Honour were Dr. Anshumali Sharma, Director, Childline, Lucknow, RJ Ms. Parul Sharma & Radio Jokey AIR FM Rainbow Lucknow. The guests were Ms. Anamika Srivastava, Program Executor AIR FM Rainbow and Ms. Richa Srivastava, Hindustan Times, Lucknow.

The workshop coordinated by Dr. Pratiksha Srivastava and Ms. Preeti Bala Mishra, was a widely attended event with almost 456 participants drawn from different institutes within Amity like ASCO, ALS, ASL, AIIT, ASET, AIB, ASFT, ASPS and AIE. The HOD’s and HOI’s from the different departments and institutes of Amity were also present viz., Prof. (Dr.) Kumkum Ray (HOD, ASL), Maj. Gen G.S. Narang (Director, DSW) and Dr. Mala Tandon (HOD, AIE).

The workshop began with the inauguration and lightening of the lamp by various dignitaries and HOIS and HODS of various departments. After this a video clip (effort by the students of Youth eve) was showed to audiences. This was followed by a talk show which addresses the issues raised by students. The experts included Prof. (Dr.) Manju Agarwal, Ms. Sutapa Sanyal, Dr. Anshumali, and Ms. Parul Sharma. Besides these experts some other dignitaries like Ms. Sangeeta Sharma, Ms. Anamika Srivastava, and Ms. Rich Srivastava also handled the questions put forth by students. DO NOT GIVE UP was the tag line by each expert.

Ms. Sutapa Sanyal clearly mentions in her experiences that “When people kill themselves they kill the pain within them but pass on the pain to those who they leave behind.” RJ Parul Sharma asked students to identify the warning signs that their peers, parents, siblings, neighbors etc are giving. Dr. Anshumali, Director Childline, launched the forum of ALL IS WELL. He reiterated that Lack of communication is the main cause of suicide.

The program also included Nukad Natak by AIBAS and ALS, theme dance performances by SWATRIX and AIBAS students and motivational songs by ASCO and AIBAS students. The program ended with presenting the memento to the guests and the vote of thanks by                   Prof. (Dr.) Manju Agarwal.
