A field visit as part of Field Work Project was organized by Amity Institute of Travel and Tourism for the students of 2nd Semester, under its program - Bachelors of Travel and Tourism Management. The students visited the following places as part of this Field Work Project, to experience the practical workings of Tourism Industry –
i. Ajanta Caves – It is the 1st UNESCO World Heritage Site to be declared in India in 1983. These are Buddhist Caves and are great exponent of Buddhist architecture
ii. Bibi ka Maqbara – Also known as ‘Baby Taj, it was constructed during Aurangzeb’s reign and is known to be an imitation of the Taj Mahal in Agra
iii. Daulatabad Fort – This Fort was the seat of Aurangzeb’s Empire in the Deccan Plateau region
iv. Grishneshwar Temple – This Hindu Temple is one of the 12 ‘Jyotirlingas’ and considered to be a very sacred place for Hindus
v. Aurangzeb’s Tomb – This Tomb is Aurangzeb’s final resting place
vi. Ellora Caves – After Ajanta Caves, Ellora Caves were the 2nd UNESCO World Heritage Site to be declared in India. These are primarily Hindu Temples and Caves, and some Caves devoted to Jainism.
A total of 33 students and 2 Faculty Members participated in the Field Work Project. The entire trip was organized by ‘Over The Moon Holidays’ – a Tour Operator based in Panvel, Maharashtra.
The objective of the event was to to give the students an exposure to the working of travel and tourism industry. Also to show the importance of heritage, culture, and religion in the tourism industry and to introduce all aspects required for the smooth functioning of a tour, to the students. During this visit students learnt about the workings of the travel industry at a highly popular and one of the most frequently visited tourist destinations in India. They also got opportiunity to learn the aspects required to organize a group tour by interacting with the tour organisers and service providers during the visit.
As part of the BTTM Program, students learn about different forms of tourism that are practiced throughout the world. Through this visit, students were able to link their theoretical understanding of courses such as Religious Tourism, Culture Tourism of India, and Historical Tourism Products of India. In the coming end semester examination of May 2019, the Students shall be presenting a Report and presentation on the same. In all the presence of highly skilled tour organisers during the visit proved of great benefit to the students.
