The theme StyleQ 2021, is posed with a view to encourage thinking on how wearable fashion could evolve even further with technological advancements to set new bars for innovation in fashion and textiles design, but also reinvent how sustainability is often looked at in the industry. Growing awareness in sustainable fashion and rapidly evolving technology can open many doors that lead to circular economies. Such innovations can catalyse the future of sustainability in the fashion and textiles industry. While the majority of the industry weaves technology with fashion as one-off gimmicks, we cannot overlook the massive impact that technology has on all industries in the world, and hence its potential in the fashion world cannot be completely tapped into if we do not reshape our current schools of thought and look at technology as a framework for design process than a mere embellishment if we are to achieve a sustainable future.

The fundamental idea of sustainable fashion begins with the idea that the designs we propose last as long as possible. Timeless, durable and appreciates as time passes by, even the concept of “vintage,” which is fashion’s most thriving sectors, can be revolutionized with just this idea. The industry can further experiment within other sectors like mass market, High Street and luxury, and extrapolate the future of the industry on the path to a circular economy.

As fashion has recently seen a spirtin digitization, due to Covid-19, innovations will undoubtedly and drastically

accelerate its pace. Collateral victims of lockdown and social distancing, fashion weeks and their parades have chosen to bounce back by going digital. The recent period of lockdowns and the advent of virtual collections is just one more proof that the combination of knowledge and know-how, traditional and digital, will be the undisputable foundation of the future of fashion.

A future intended to be more flexible, more ecological, more customizable, and much more sustainable.

In this evolving saga, today’s creations and inspirations will themselves, in turn, become a tradition for the future. The concept is fairly simple but the feedback loops are all encompassing: essentially all of the things that we design and that surround us. This conference aims at providing a solid basis for achieving excellence in design and realizing positive community outcomes.

We invite academicians, researchers, members of the industry and community to participate and present their theories and reviews as full papers and posters which will serve towards expanding notions of the above theme.
