Academic Excellence

Objectives and Functions

The Amity Institute of International Studies (AIIS) was established with the core objective of becoming a Centre of Excellence in the field of International Relations. It aims to significantly contribute to the existing knowledge domain through high-quality teaching, research, and policy engagement in international affairs and public administration.

AIIS is the first institute in India to introduce International Relations at the undergraduate level, reflecting its pioneering spirit. Its programmes are benchmarked against leading institutions such as Jawaharlal Nehru University (India), Newcastle University (Australia), the University of Michigan (USA), and Pondicherry University (India). The curriculum is designed to meet international standards and to prepare students for successful careers in globally recognized institutions, universities, think tanks, and industries.

Collaborations and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with institutions such as the National Maritime Foundation (NMF), United Services Institute (USI), Jinan University (China), University of Warsaw (Poland), and Plymouth University (UK) have enhanced curriculum inclusivity and diversity.

Purpose

AIIS is dedicated to cultivating future leaders, diplomats, and scholars in the domains of international relations, diplomacy, public policy, and related multidisciplinary fields. Through innovative pedagogy, research, training, and consultancy, the institution seeks to:

  • Offer academic programmes at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels.
  • Provide a one-year Postgraduate Diploma
  • Deliver a four-year honours research programme at the undergraduate level in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP).
  • Promote multidisciplinary teaching and research.
  • Conduct policy research on current and emerging global issues.
  • Undertake consultancy assignments in allied areas.
  • Provide advocacy and support services on matters related to international relations and diplomacy.

Academic and Co-curricular Activities

In addition to classroom teaching, AIIS organizes a wide range of academic and student-led activities to foster deeper engagement with international affairs:

  • Special lectures, roundtable discussions, seminars, workshops, and conferences.
  • Student-initiated programmes such as Intra-Model United Nations, IR Dialogues, AIIS Blog, and monthly newsletters including Parmanu, Public Diplomacy, Samudra Sambandh, South Asia Gazette, and AIIS Weekly.
  • Club activities and simulation exercises such as Matrix Gaming to enhance understanding of global dynamics through experiential learning.
