Training Program on “Medication Safety”

A visit to one-day training program on “Medication Safety” at Sahara Hospital, Lucknow, was organized by the Amity Institute of Pharmacy (AIP), Amity University Uttar Pradesh Lucknow Campus. The training program was organized by the Department of Quality, Sahara Hospital, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Pharm. D. third and fourth-year students were escorted on this training program by Dr. Sharad Chand, Assistant Professor, AIP, AUUP Lucknow Campus.

The training program was based on the theme of Management of Medication (MOM) and was highlighted as an important patient safety initiative at a hospital.

The session was opened by Dr. Abha Tandon on the safe delivery of pharmacy services and medication services. Additionally, the training program also gave an overview of the handling of narcotic drugs, radioactive drugs, chemotherapeutic agents, and implantable prostheses, reporting of ADR and medication errors, the pharmacovigilance program of India (PvPI), and prescription auditing. Students also gained thorough insights into medication errors, root cause analysis, and preventable medication errors. All the sessions were scientific, and relevant and discussed the outline of various mitigation strategies for medication safety and appropriate medication usage which healthcare professionals must comply with to ensure NABH accreditation in the long run.

Students got an excellent opportunity to learn about hospital formulary insights, the procurement of drugs, stock control, and management, insights into medication errors, root cause analysis, and preventable medication errors. It was an interactive session for the exchange of new knowledge and opportunities for stimulating young minds.
