National Seminar on “Mental Health in Workplace”

Amity College of Nursing, Amity University Gurgaon organised National Seminar on “Mental Health in Workplace” in collaboration with Psychology department on 10th October 2017. The objective of this seminar was creating awareness on mental health issues & mobilizing efforts in support of better mental health at the workplace. The Guest Speaker of the day was Dr Sandhya, HOD, Mental Health Nursing, College of Nursing, AIIMS. The chief guest felicitated by Amity Memento by Prof (Dr.) Padmakali Banerjee, ProVice-Chancellor. Prof. Pranati Barua, Principal, ACON stated the importance of mental health in our lives and its importance at the workplace. Prof (Dr.) Padmakali Banerjee Shared her viewpoints on ‘Advantages of optimism for well being’. She highlighted the beneficial effects of positive thinking in our daily lives and job setting. The session followed by Dr Sandhya Gupta on ‘Psychological First Aid’. She emphasised the power of humbleness, respecting others and being resilient. During the Session, Nukkad Natak played by the students of AIBAS dept which was devised under the leadership of Dr Rishipal, HOD, AIBAS. The drama depicted the reaction of society towards mental illness. During the day poster competition was also organised.

In the post-lunch session, A cine seminar was held in which a movie named ‘ Kriti’ was shown which highlighted mental delusions. The summary of the movie was discussed by Dr. Rishipal and Dr. Vikas Sharma, HOD, Dept. of Clinical Psychology.The workplace stress at Amity was assessed by Dr. Anupama Srivasva, Asstt. Prof. AIBAS.  A questionnaire was prepared and distributed among the faculty members. She shared her findings which revealed that a considerable number of faculty were under stress due to the risk of losing a job, attendance, increment and leave. The session was followed by experts on various topics like Stree Management Techniques & Relaxation Therapies.

The prizes for the poster competition were distributed by Maj. Gen. Mahavir Singh, Dean FHAS and Prof. Pranati Barua, Principal. The first prize was won by Dept. of Applied Science and second and third by ACON.The day ended with vote of thanks by Prof. Kiran Taneja, Vice Principal, ACON in which she paid gratitude to the management, all the dignitaries, guests, speakers, faculty and students.
