Amity School of Engineering & Technology organizes a National Conference on Emerging Trends in Manufacturing & Automation Engineering (NCMAE-2017) on 06th October, 2017

Amity School of Engineering & Technology, Amity University Madhya Pradesh organized a National Conference on Emerging Trends in Manufacturing & Automation Engineering (NCMAE-2017) on 06, October, 2017. This conference was organized to discuss the current global economic scenario, latest technologies and advancement in the field of Manufacturing & Automation Engineering as they are not only the key to meet the economic and social needs of all sections of society at large, but also for sustainable development and inclusive growth of the society as a whole.

Population demographics along with the increasing urbanization have invoked the need for sustainable and efficient mechanized solutions. Therefore, the role of machines has increased in day to day life. Developments of machines, robots, have stimulated the global manufacturing & automation provoking industrial growth. Consequentially, the potential of these technologies in empowerment of citizens and job creation is, of course, immense.

In this conference more than 101 papers were received from various places of India, out of which 71 papers were selected for publication after peer review.

The programme started with the registrations of participants. The inaugural session started with auspicious lamp lighting by Chief Guest Prof Jayanta Kumar Dutt, Professor, IIT Delhi, Guest of Honour Prof. Puneet Tandon, Professor, PDPM IIITDM, Jabalpur, Prof. Dixit Garg, Professor, NIT Kurukshetra, Prof. P. Srinivasan, Head Mechanical Engineering Department, BITS-Pilani and Devendra Kumar Raghuwanshi AVP & Plant Head Punj Lloyd Limited, Gwalior. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Lt Gen VK Sharma, AVSM (Retd.), Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) M. P. Kaushik, Organizing Secretary of the event and Director ASET Maj Gen (Dr) SC Jain, VSM** (Retd.), Dean Research Prof. (Dr.) S. P. Bajpai, Dean Academics Prof. (Dr.) R. S. Tomar, Registrar Shri Rajesh Jain, Deans, HOIs, HODs, faculty members of Amity University, Gwalior and participants were present on the occasion. This was followed by Saraswati Vandana and felicitation of Guests.

Thereafter, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor AUMP Lt Gen VK Sharma, AVSM (Retd.) delivered the opening remarks and enlightened the participants with the importance of sustainable development by including renewable energy while adopting the modern techniques and machines. He spoke the importance of developments in the field of manufacturing, condition monitoring, material like heat absorbing material, automated machines and stressed that these are the research points in the field of Manufacturing & Automation Engineering.

Prof . J. K. Dutt, Professor, IIT Delhi was the Chief Guest and Key Note speaker of the conference. He delivered the keynote address on “Rotor Vibration Control-Applications of Electromagnetic Actuators and Active Magnetic Bearings”. In his talk Prof. Dutt spoke of how the automated vibrations levels are significant for machine monitoring systems. Rotors are very important for most of our machines and so safe, reliable that rotor operations are indispbensible. Pure rotary energy is expected from the rotors however due to non-uniform distribution of inertia, misalignment, non-symmetry in rotor-cross section, non-uniformity of the load, etc. Transverse vibrations appear due to the rotary motion and thus the rotor executes whirling motion as it spins. The whirling motion is unwanted, causes operational difficulties, inaccuracies, fatigue and also may lead to failure. Also in his talk Dr. Dutt emphasized the various problems associated in design and health monitoring of mechanical systems. Thereafter, the Souvenir of the conference was released and mementos were presented.

Post tea session was taken by Prof. P. Srinivasan. He gave his talk on Heat Transfer Applications in Manufacturing Processes to improve productivity. In his talk, he explained the role of all manufacturing processes like casting, welding, forming, machining etc. The process parameter optimisation to improve the process without giving due consideration to heat transfer is nearly impossible. However, heat transfer is always considered as a subject that does not have much to do with manufacturing process. During his talk he emphasized on the fact that the heat transfer will definitely help in manufacturing quality products at relatively cheaper cost. Manufacturing cost control is very essential to meet the tough competition in the sector.

Post Lunch session was chaired by Prof. Puneet Tandon, Professor IIITDM Jabalpur. He delivered a talk on “Dieless Manufacturing”. In his lecture he stressed that sheet metal forming forms a significant part of contemporary industry and has seen massive progress in recent years. Sheet metal forming facilitates net - shaping of components without any addition and subtraction of material to a metal blank. The development of dieless forming technologies such as Incremental Sheet Forming (ISF) is playing a major role in shaping the future of this industry. In his talk he eminently presented the idea of sheet metal forming with ISF and the role of CAD, CAM and CAE in the successful generation of true geometries. The talk was relevent to engineering innovations, novel process developments and application of the said technology.

Last session of the day was the technical paper/poster presentation of participants which was chaired by Mr. Nasir Khan.

The one day conference ended with the Valedictory Ceremony which began with the welcome of Chief Guest Prof. J. K. Dutt, Professor, IIT Delhi by Mr. Devendra Kumar Raghuwanshi, AVP & Plant Head Punj Lloyd Limited, Gwalior. In his valedictory address, he talked about recent developments in manufacturing and automation technology. In his valuable talk he focused on the various recent softwares and manufacturing technologies that help in faster, economical and eco-friendly development. The concluding remarks were given by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, AUMP Lt. Gen. V. K. Sharma, AVSM (Retd.). Present were Hon’ble Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) M. P. Kaushik, Organizing Secretary and Director ASET Maj Gen (Dr) SC Jain, VSM** (Retd.), Dean Research Prof. (Dr.) S. P. Bajpai, Dean Academics Prof. (Dr.) R. S. Tomar, Registrar Shri Rajesh Jain, Deans, HOIs, HODs, faculty members of AUMP, Gwalior and participants. In his concluding remarks, the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Amity University, Madhya Pradesh Lt. Gen. V.K. Sharma explained the various issues related to the manufacturing and automation engineering and research methods for sustainable and efficient infrastructure solutions. Thereafter, the winners of the Best paper and poster were given certificates and prizes by the Hon’ble Chief Guest Prof J. K. Dutt along with the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Lt Gen VK Sharma, AVSM (Retd.),  Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) M. P. Kaushik and Director ASET Maj Gen (Dr) SC Jain, VSM** (Retd.). `
