Innovation and IPR workshop ignites young minds at Amity University Chhattisgarh

Amity University, right from inception, focuses on pioneering, innovative and creative ideas and encourages the intellectuals for novel research. To create awareness about IPR amongst the youth and motivate them to come up with inclusive, transparent and affordable innovations which are beneficial for larger part of society, Amity University Chhattisgarh in association with NRDC organized One Day Workshop on “Innovation and Intellectual Property Rights” on 27th September 2018 for the students, faculty members and researchers. It was a platform to share cutting-edge knowledge, research projects and innovative ideas by domain experts. The workshop aimed at sensitizing faculty and students on understanding key aspects of IPR, protecting one’s ideas, patents, trademarks, copyrights and emphasized importance of innovation and its ever increasing role in our lives. 

Shri Alok Awasthi, IAS Director, Chhattisgarh Academy of Administration and Managing Director, Chhattisgarh Khadi and Village Industries Board, Dr. W. Selvamurthy, President, ASTIF, Chancellor, AUC, Prof. (Dr.) Shyamalendu Niyogi, Director NRDC-Amity IFC; Advisor RBEF & AHF; Professor Amity University, Noida, Dr Smita Sahu, Assistant Professor, Registered Indian Patent Attorney, ASTIF/ADSI/AIB Amity University Noida, Prof Vijay Singh Dahima, Head of Campus, Prof S C Mukhopadhyay, Registrar inaugurated the workshop. 

Addressing the gathering, Prof V S Dahima, Head of Campus, AUC stated that innovation is at the core of the growth of human being and creativity, innovation and patenting are the need of the hour. He shared that Amity has filed over 875 patents in last few years and it is the largest Private University to have maximum number of patents filed in till date.

Prof. (Dr.) Shyamalendu Niyogi, Director, NRDC-Amity IFC, Advisor RBEF & AHF, Professor Amity University Noida introduced IFC, welcomed the young researchers to come out with innovative start up ideas. He guided them to protect their knowledge and ideas while they are doing their research with IP Protection. He stressed that IPR is the key for opulence, knowledge transfer can be done it authentically and India can become knowledge superpower only through Innovations and IPR. He conveyed the message of Dr. H. Puroshotham, Chairman & Managing Director of National Research Development Corporation in India (NRDC), who assured that NRDC-AMITY Intellectual Property Facilitation Centre shall strive its best to create awareness and skills amongst the students and faculty on various IP issues to maintain the leadership position of Amity University in the academic institutions. He encouraged all the students and faculty to equip themselves with knowledge on various IPs as IPRs are playing key role in the knowledge economy, particularly in trade, investment, innovation and overall socio-economic development of the nations. 

Sharing his views, Dr. W. Selvamurthy, President, ASTIF, Chancellor, AUC, stated that he has a faith in young researchers who are the future of the country and who will set a better world order, filled with peace and prosperity. He affirmed that India finds its pride having legacy of the Vedas, Upanishads, Unani, Takshashila, Nalanda and other institutions of eminence; he avowed that India will indubitably recur as knowledge superpower and Amity will play an imperative contribution in this resurrection. He stated that innovation can be in the field of management, science or a part of everyone’s life; the future of IPR is bright in the country and the youth will take it to greater heights; Amity focuses on frugal innovations which can reach the grass root levels. He affirmed that Amity will shape the vision of Dr. Ashok K Chauhan- Founder President, Amity Group that India will be a knowledge superpower by 2025. 

Addressing the gathering, Shri Alok Awasthi, IAS Director, Chhattisgarh Academy of Administration and Managing Director, Chhattisgarh Khadi and Village Industries Board, the Guest of Honour of the Programme stated that in last 18 years, Chhattisgarh has made immense progress. Industrialization has taken place at exemplary rate in the state. Priority for CG Govt. is to bring progress at agricultural products and industries. He welcomed young scientists and researchers to come up with innovation by which the people at grass root levels of Chhattisgarh can be benefited. 

Dr. Pradeep Kumar Sinha, Fellow IEEE, Fellow CSI and ACM Distinguished Engineer Vice Chancellor & Director, IIIT Naya Raipur emphasized that an innovation or ideas can be derived from daily life and should not be high technology driven; he welcomed the researchers to come out with good innovations.

Shri Gaurishankar Agrawal, Hon’ble Speaker, Chhattisgarh State Assembly, Raipur through his video message congratulated Amity University Chhattisgarh for organizing the workshop and enhancing the Innovation and IPR practices in the state. 

The inauguration was followed by two technical sessions by eminent speakers including Dr. Amit Dubey, Scientist D, Central Laboratory Facility (CLF)/Patent Information Centre (PIC), Chhattisgarh Council of Science and Technology, Raipur, Dr. Sushil Kumar Shahi, Associate Professor& Head, Department of Botany, Guru Ghasidas Central University, Bilaspur, Dr. Deepak Sharma, Principal Scientist, Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Nodal Officer PPV &FR Act (CG), Dr. Muhammed Aamir Khan, Assistant Professor, Hidayatullah National Law University, Raipur and Dr Smita Sahu, Assistant Professor, Registered Indian Patent Attorney, ASTIF/ADSI/AIB, Amity University Noida. The speakers emphasized on the significance and types of innovations and IPR, role in new product development, importance of IPR with reference to patent laws and best practices of capturing innovation in a university set-up. 

The programme was coordinated by Dr Indrani Singh Rai and Mr G Raghavendra Prasad and the workshop was attended by several dignitaries, including scientists, scholars, academicians, bureaucrats and around six hundred students of Amity University Chhattisgarh.
