We investigate cognition from multiple perspectives, with key research areas including:

Neuroscience of Learning, Memory and Attention

  • Using neuroimaging and brain-mapping techniques to understand how learning happens at the neural level.
  • Developing evidence-based strategies to improve memory, attention, and problem-solving skills.

Artificial Intelligence and Human Cognition

  • Designing AI systems inspired by human reasoning and perception.
  • Studying how humans and machines can collaborate effectively.

Language, Communication, and Culture

  • Exploring how language influences thought, identity, and social interaction.
  • Investigating multilingualism, language acquisition, and communication disorders.

Decision-Making and Problem-Solving

  • Analyzing the cognitive and emotional factors that shape our choices.
  • Applying insights to fields like economics, policy-making, and behavioral design.

Cognitive Development Across the Lifespan

  • Studying how thinking evolves from infancy to old age.
  • Identifying ways to support healthy cognitive aging.

ACCS actively involves students at all levels.

B.Sc. (Honours with Research) students complete a supervised major project/dissertation.

M.Sc. students undergo lab rotations, summer internship and mandatory dissertation.

Ph.D. scholars are supported through Doctoral Fellowships and Assistantships and participate in the Institute Public Lecture Series.
Scholars are encouraged to present their research at leading international conferences.
