Women Empowerment and Livelihood Generation

A CSR Initiative of Indraprastha Gas Limited

Amity Humanity Foundation’s Women Empowerment and Livelihood Generation programme got a huge impetus with the support it received under CSR initiatives of Indraprastha Gas limited (IGL) since 2017. This program is designed to empower rural women by skilling them and, in turn, enabling them to earn livelihood through wage and self-employability. The trainees are mobilised from various villages of Greater Noida such as Surajpur, Kasna, Haldona, Gujarpur, Mubarikpur, Makoda, Tugalpur and Chhalera, Sadarpur, Raipur Asgharpur etc. near NOIDA.

These women are trained under the guidance of experienced professionals on industrial sewing machines, which gave them hands-on experience and equips them to maintain the production efficiency once they areemployed. The beneficiaries are trained in such a manner that they would be ready for wage and self-employment immediately after the course. Apart from the actual training, in order to ensure an overall development of the trainees, special soft skill classes are also incorporated with a long term perspective of maintaining quality in business relations with clients.

The programme has resulted in successful skilling of more than 300 underprivileged women under two types of Trainings so far :

1. 2017-18: Skill training of 100 Basic Sewing Machine Operators (BSMOs), enabling them for Self-Employability in the rural areas of Greater Noida

2. 2018-19 : Skill training of 100 Basic Sewing Machine Operators (BSMOs) and 100 Advance Sewing Machine Operators (ASMOs) in villages of Noida.

3. 2019-20 : Skill training to 105 women as Advance Sewing Machine Operators (ASMOs) in villages of Noida and Greater Noida till date target is 300 for the year.

Skill acquired by the trainees and the success rate of over 75% in Self and Wage Employment have generated an overwhelming response and interest in the community which was initially unsure about sending their women folk for any such income generation activity. Even the Garment industry (both the garment exporters and manufacturers) has responded positively and is keen on employing them. Training on Automatic Sewing Machines is considered preferable both from wage employment and self-employment points of view, as being equipped with fashion designing concepts, their clientele would increase tremendously.

The overall result that has come on completion of these training programmes is very encouraging as it has truly brought out self-confidence not only in the trainees but also in the community at large.
