THE GLOBAL TIMES

The Global Times newspaper is an initiative undertaken by the Amity Family to give a platform to the students to voice their opinions, their thoughts and unleash their imagination. The students are encouraged to voice their views in the paper, be it articles or poems, sports facts and news, political introspections, new inventions and theories, projects that the children might have undertaken, jokes, caricatures, riddles or even puzzles and crosswords.

The children are required to submit their articles to the Global Times in charge ? Ms.Padmini Das and once they are scrutinized, edited for spelling and semantic/syntactical errors, they are forwarded to Ms.Vira Sharma, the Global Times Editor.

DNA CLUB:

DNA Club is an initiative by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India in collaboration with Aravalli Foundation for Education. This has been primarily initiated to spread awareness about environmental education among the youth.

DNA club students engage in a variety of hands on activities in the lab. Also trips to biodiversity parts & field visits for plant & animal collection are organized from time to time. The students have maintained a biodiversity register listing the varieties of plants in the area. Industrial visits are also arranged to encourage an interest in scientific research.

SPACE CLUB:

The Space Astronomy Club is associated with ?Science Popularization Association of Communicators & Educators?. The main objective of this club is to inculcate scientific temper among the students by introducing scientific concepts and initiating a process of inquiry, experimentation and analysis. This is chiefly done so that the students can assimilate their knowledge and think of innovative methods of safeguarding their environment.

The club also provides them training related to advance astronomy and prepares them for the implementation of the acquired knowledge in scientific projects. The activities in this club include sky observation, visit to planetarium, Jantar Mantar, interactive multi-media, sessions etc. Students learn about celestial bodies, view them during deep sky observation, and re-organize them.

During sessions, students are given detailed information about space objects & instruments or devices used to observe them. They learn about the facts behind appearance of celestial bodies, viewing the sun by safe methods, measuring circumference of Earth by observing shadow of an object. The outdoor excursion of the study of Deep Sky is conducted in a place away from light pollution. Students watch stars, galaxies moon, planets, constellations etc. which are not visible clearly in cities. During astrophotography they learn about camera and technique behind clicking the celestial bodies. It is a great experience to view the other celestial bodies and recognize them. Such activities greatly widen the horizon of the student as they are witness to concepts which they may not study about in the routine school curriculum.
