NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON "IMPACT OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON AIR QUALITY, BIODIVERSITY AND AGRICULTURE"

Events

Amity Institute of Biotechnology organized National Conference

Air quality and climate are complexly connected. Due to expansion of industrial and urban community, numerous natural and anthropogenic sources emit carbon dioxide, other greenhouse gases and particulate matters. These air pollutants interact with radiation and lead to change the climate by agitating the ecosystem energy balance. Climate change may cause to degrade air quality by altering air pollution, meteorology, precipitation and other removal processes and vice-versa. Various interactions including radiative and microphysical can change the meteorology leading to altered precipitation and regional circulation patterns. These altered patterns in meteorology components contribute to extreme episodes and their long-term and short-term exposures may affect health. IPCC (2014) reported that the world has warmed by approximately 0.85oC in the last 130 years. Extreme high air temperatures also raise the levels of ozone and other air pollutants that contribute directly to deaths from cardiovascular and respiratory disease. According to an assessment of World Health Organization in 2014, climate change is expected to cause extensive deaths per year due to heat exposure, diarrhea and vector-borne diseases. Changes in climate are likely to prolong the transmission seasons of important vector-borne diseases like Malaria and Dengue transmitted by Anopheles mosquitoes and Aedes mosquito respectively may alter their geographic range also.

COP 21: UN climate change conference was held in Paris (30 November to 11 December 2015) aimed at reducing global greenhouse gas emissions and thus avoiding the threat of dangerous climate change.  However, a lot of research has been done on air pollution issues but it is is still a serious concern world-wide. To understand more about air quality- climate change complexity and explore the mitigation of impacts at the regional and global scale, Amity Institute of Biotechnology (AUR, Jaipur) is organizing a national conference at Amity University, Rajasthan, Jaipur. The event will include three days of invited lectures and presentations of some key scientists and stakeholders from India.  Selected early career scientists may presents their research in the form of posters on the following themes:

  • Climate Change and Air Quality
  • Role of Climate Extremes in Changing the Climate
  • Air Quality, Climate Change, and Human Health
  • Air Quality System and Model Application
  • Impact of changing air quality on Biodiversity
  • Climate Change and Community Ecology
  • Air Quality and Agriculture
