Advanced High-Strength Steel (AHSS) refers to a new generation of steel that provides high-strength (up to 2,000 MPa) and durability while maintaining formability that is crucial to the manufacturing process. AHSS is critical to weight reduction in fields such as automotive engineering, rail transport, Energy Infrastructure, Shipbuilding, and Aerospace. The aim of this special session is to discuss new developments and challenges in the welding of Ultra High Strength Steels.

This special session covers the following topics:
  • Advanced High Strength Steels (AHSS),
  • The role of Ultra high strength steels in the vehicle industry,
  • Weldability,
  • Cold cracking sensitivity,
  • HAZ characterization,
  • Mismatch effect between the filler and base material,
  • Gas metal arc welding (GMAW),
  • Resistance spot welding,
  • High energy beam welding processes,
  • Post weld heat treatment (PWHT)
  • Numerical and physical simulation
