Programmes Offered

The academic programmes provide knowledge based on experiential learning; help students hone professional skills in their chosen areas of study; inculcate in them best practices endorsed in science and technology, spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation; and equip students with the skills to visualize, synthesize and execute projects in these fields.

The objectives and USP of AIB programmes are -

  • To provide adequate and sound education in Biotechnology to students. To prepare them for innovative, creative, and successful careers in a global society as competent professional.
  • To make them skilful professional biotechnologist who can apply principles of the subject to develop excellent research tools and capabilities through project works.
  • To produce qualified graduates of biotechnology to meet the emerging needs for biotechnology and allied fields in India and abroad.
  • To emphasize on interdisciplinary research merging science and technology so that students can address important national and global needs, and work in the direction of technology transfer and its commercialization.
  • To develop managerial qualities like creativity, leadership, team work, skill enhancement, and professional ethics, thus contributing towards the growth and development of society. The curriculum entails intensive corporate interaction and frequent industry visits to ensure that students are industry read, learn from real-life situations and are able to tackle challenges in the changing landscape of economy.

AIB motivates students to conceptualise out-of-the-box ideas and novel concepts in the field of Biotechnology. The academic rigour at AIB provides an intellectual aura to students and researchers that contributes to knowledge acquisition and augments exploration of a gamut of innovative ideas that help in scientific endeavors.

Being a part of research-driven university, the faculty of AIB engage in innovative pedagogy, creative projects, developing scientific temper in students and pursue research in contemporary studies. Presently research is focused on areas such as Stem Cell Biology, Bioprocess Engineering, Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Tissue Engineering, Biopolymer Technology, Microbial Technology, Downstream Processing, Enzyme Technology, Drug Design, Renewable energy and Environmental Biotechnology.

Besides academics activities students are engaged in knowledge sharing and gaining insights through experiential learning such as seminars, workshops, conferences, lectures, interaction with experts, lab practicals, peer review, discussions, presentations, industrial visits and case studies.

The university also offers value added courses to address and enhance students’ behavioural, communication and life skills. These add-on courses help students to boost employability and engage with research collaborators. The academic regimen propels scientific outlook and inspires students to pursue cutting-edge research to contribute towards economy and nation-building.

AIB offers both Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes of study leading to B.Sc., M.Sc. and B.Tech./M.Tech along with Ph.D. degrees in Biotechnology. Students are assessed and evaluated throughout the semester by a continuous system of tests, seminars, assignments, mid and end semester examinations. The institute follows the university wide format of grading on a ten point scale. The final year of both Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses is dedicated towards research. During this year students are required to undertake research project and get to experience the joys and rigors of performing original research. The institute also has fully functional placement cell for assisting students who want to join the industry. The students are admitted to any of the following programme through a written entrance examination and personal interview which ensures the quality of student admitted.
