Liberal Arts education is intended to expand the capacity of the mind to think critically and analyze information effectively. It develops and strengthens the brain to think within and across all disciplines so that it may serve the individual over a lifetime. Students choose a specific major when they attend a Liberal Arts college, but they are also required to take courses in a variety of disciplines, where there is a heavy focus on writing, research communicating effectively and personality development.

As said by Professor T. Kitao of Swarthmore delivered an address with a poignant summary of the value of Liberal Arts:

“The knowledge you learn about the subject of the course is its nominal benefit. It is like the stated moral at the end of a fable. The real substance of learning is something more subtle and complex and profound, which cannot be easily summarized like the story itself. It has to be experienced, and it is as an experience that it becomes an integral part of the person. Learning how to learn by learning how to think makes a well-educated person.”

Along with graduate level courses in English, History, Political Science, Spanish, French, German the Amity School of Liberal Arts & Foreign Languages also offers Masters of Arts in English, Applied Linguistics and ELT(English Language teaching) and the Doctoral Programmes in English, History and Applied Linguistics & TESOL. The value added courses on Behavioral Science and Communication Skills are also offered by Amity School of Liberal Arts & Foreign Languages. To provide global exposure to the students, ASLA & FL encourages them for Study Abroad Programme (SAP). Through this programme, the students are given an experiential learning platform abroad for gaining knowledge of foreign culture, industry and academic dynamics. Students also get an opportunity to interact with foreign faculty and carry out focused projects under their guidance.

As the world is becoming smaller with the advancement of technology, we realise that language has not just become an integral part of professional acumen but it also provides you access to untouched arenas. In the last two decades, foreign language learning has shown tremendous expansion. After the liberalisation of economy, the markets gradually started understanding the importance of knowing foreign language due to high stake investment of multinational companies all across the world. The relevance of polyglots started to seem more and more important with countries opening up their markets as a global platform.

We have been constantly sending students for industrial visits, job fairs, and field trips to better understand the contemporary expectations from a language expert, interpreters and translators. Guest lectures and seminars are conducted to give the students a first-hand experience to interact with the native speakers.

Scientific findings state that knowing a foreign language can boost your overall growth in the following ways:

•    Makes a person better at problem solving

•    Makes you a better multi-tasker

•    Makes you more observant

•    Makes you prone to make better decision

•    Improves memory retention

Amity School of Liberal Arts & Foreign Languages ascertains the overall growth of its students by challenging their mental strength and capacity by engaging them in analytical exercises. Students are always encouraged to understand the logic rather than mug up for exams. We, as a school for grown up human mind, understand their need to reason and not simply memorise rules.
