Amity School of Languages organised guest lecture on China and India in the Changing Global Order

Amity School of Languages hosted an expert lecture event on the topic "China and India in the Changing Global Order" on September 15th, 2022. Dr. Suvro Parui, Assistant Professor and Coordinator, planned the event (Chinese). Former Indian Ambassador to Jordan, Libya, and Malta, Amb. Anil Trigunayat, talked to students and faculty on world events, particularly the roles of India and China in the Changing Global Order.

Amb. Anil Trigunayat began his speech by discussing the Russia-Ukraine war, saying that while it was a serious security worry for Russia, violence cannot be a solution to problems in today's world. He goes on to argue that it is a battle between Russia and the United States. He then discusses his interactions with China throughout his travels while stationed in Mongolia.

China, led by Prime Minister Xi Jinping, is challenging US hegemony and may even prevail. For China's economic, geopolitical, and military progress, the OBOR plan must succeed. He discusses how China has worked hard to increase its economic prowess and is now capable of confronting the world's big nations. He goes on to say that in all international interactions, national interests are paramount for all countries, including India. We should be allowed to call the shots when necessary, and China recognises this, recently complimenting India (despite border difficulties) for its strategic autonomy in the Russia-Ukraine war. He emphasizes that the'strategy' with China is about the long haul, mentioning the recent LAC detachment as an example of how it was agreed to in July but just recently completed due to 16 rounds of discussions. He also discusses the global lack of vaccines during the Corona epidemic, how China was one of the most affected countries to date, and how India was the sole country to begin vaccine deliveries to other countries, forcing China to understand that India, too, is a power to be reckoned with.President Pranab Mukherjee has stated that India and China must collaborate for the greater benefit, but on reasonable conditions. He also strongly advises and concludes the session by emphasising the importance of cooperation among SCO, BRICS, RIC, and other nations, as well as respect for each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The "Takeaways" for the attendees were a better grasp of international dynamics with a focus on China and its significance to India.
