Amity School of Communication organized an invited international expert lecture on ‘Journalism in the Age of Misinformation’ on 31 January 2024 from 2:30 PM - 4:00 PM. The online talk was delivered by Professor Lawrence Pintak (Professor & Founding Dean), Edward R. Murrow College of Communication, Washington State University (US.) Professor Pintak engaged in an insightful exploration of the indispensable role of an unfettered and impartial press in upholding the fabric of a democratic society. He elucidated the profound and far-reaching dangers emanating from the proliferation of misinformation, exemplified by the insidious spread of ‘Fake News’ and the emergence of sophisticated ‘Deep Fakes,’ which threaten the very essence of freedom and democracy. By meticulously referencing a rich tapestry of compelling case studies, Professor Pintak not only heightened consciousness surrounding these pressing issues but also imparted invaluable perspectives on the dynamic evolution of media within this complex milieu. After the lecture, a stimulating question and answer session ensued, attracting participation from undergraduate, postgraduate, and research scholars, who posed pertinent and intellectually stimulating inquiries. The orchestration of the entire event was overseen by Dr. Saad Ullah Khan, a faculty member of the Amity School of Communication at Amity University Rajasthan, Jaipur.
