Faculty Development Program on Evaluation Research organized by ASCO

 

Amity School of Communication, Amity University Gurugram organized a Faculty Development program on Evaluation Research, on 20th November 2023. The event aimed to inspire faculty and researchers in communication to explore Evaluation Research, delving into the intricate relationship between research and evaluation.

The speaker, Prof. Vinod Pavarala (Senior Professor, Dept of communication, University of Hyderabad and UNESCO Chair on Community Media) covered various facets of evaluation, emphasizing its impact on organizations and discussing evaluation strategies, including scientific-experimental, management-oriented, qualitative/anthropological, and participatory research models. The address highlighted the functions and methods of evaluation, underscoring the significance of participatory research and key topics such as log frame analysis, project management tools like PERT, and the importance of considering people as agents in the evaluation process. The speaker encouraged critical reflection, mutual learning, and stakeholder involvement, distinguishing between formative and summative evaluation types and providing an overview of the evaluation cycle. A total of 15 students and 15 faculty members Participated in the event.


In conclusion, the event provided valuable insights, distinguishing between anthropological and participatory models, understanding the extended process of the latter, and recognizing the positive impact of listening to stakeholders.  Discussions on mixed methods, political acumen in participatory practices, and real-world applications of evaluative techniques enriched attendees' perspectives.
